Not far from St Marks Square you can cross to this island by gondola for 2 euros. Alternatively you can get a water bus or walk over the bridge. Lovely little island with lots to see and do. We went to the Damien Hirst Treasures from the Wreck of the Unbelievable exhibition at Palazzo Grassi and it was fabulous. For... More

Great views of the architecture, water, boats, and adjacent islands. Loved the people watching opportunities and the photo opportunities.

My friend and I rented an apartment on this island. We enjoyed staying here. It's a short (10 min) vaporetto ride to St Mark's square, but more quiet and not so crowded. In addition you get beautiful panoramic views of Venice! I would stay again here.

We had a wonderful visit to the island of Giudecca. We were able to dine at some very amazing restaurants - many more than once and the ease of getting to the island of Venice was [perfect.

We had 4 nights here in an apartment near the Stucky Hilton hotel -it was very peaceful away from the crowds - we visited the main part of Venice in the day travelling each day in the free stucky Hilton boat to St Mark's Square and then returned to peace and quiet in the evening. We ate out here. there... More

Just a short Vaporetto ride across the Giudecca Canal. This is the place to book an apartment (or the Hilton Hotel). It's where you'll find ordinary people with a few useful shops and cafes.

Not really anything to see on this island off the tourist grid. Our hotel was there, otherwise we wouldn't have bothered

This is a great little island to take advantage of cheaper restaurants and at least two good hotels - and a women prison. Also a good place to take a breath and look over to Venice or watch boats/ships go by.

A great place to stay with a lovely view of the city - wander the narrow walkways and enjoy the local flavor.

We did not get a chance to visit the island, but the views from the main island and the ferry boats were glorious.

Staying in Giudecca

Neighbourhood Profile
Giudecca is a retreat for Venetians away from the crowds. Symbolically, six metal teeth represent Venice’s six sestieri (districts); the seventh, Guidecca, points away from the others – part of Dorsoduro, but separated by the Giudecca Canal. Giudecca evolved from a center of shipyards and factories to a quiet residential area with a sprinkling of restaurants and bars. The majestic harmonious Redentore church stands as thanks for delivering Venice from the plague, hosting an annual heartfelt festival.
