Venice is a unique city. We walked a lot, took a gondolas ride, took the Vaporetto every day to somewhere new, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We admired the architecture along the Grand Canal and enjoyed many of the restaurants along the canal. We were lucky enough to see races along the Grand Canal in early September. It is a... More

The canal is most definitely grand. We ate lunch sitting beside it most days and as we went in February, it didn't smell, despite the beautiful sunny weather. We never got bored of the view.

You don't need to travel far to see the grand Canal it runs right through the heart of Venice...lovely to walk along however if visiting during winter be sure to wrap up warm as cold breezes...very busy with boats even in low season especially the gondolas. Good pictures to be had over the many bridges

Most people arrive in Venice by train. Leaving the train station and being greeted by a large canal blows your mind. To get around the city, you can walk the narrow streets and connecting bridges. But there are also water taxis that are convenient. It is just a wonder to go site seeing by boat or, at night, to take... More

Well, it certainly is a big canal. You don't get the sense of just how big it is until you take a stroll right by the canal itself. **TIP** Gondolas are SUPER expensive, so if you don't mind sharing the ride with others, find a group to split the cost. Honestly, though, we didn't ride the gondola, and we have... More

We had a room that overlooked the Canal, so got to see the comings and goings of different kinds of craft, like the milkman, the fruit delivery, the everyday life that occurs early in the morning. We watched the parade of boats for Carnevale 2017 on the Canal. If you know where to stand, there are no crowds. Please there... More

What better way to see Venice than by water! Gondals currently 80 euros for 30 minutes, a Water Taxi is 20 euros for 24 hours and provides access throughout Venice central and the surrounding islands. One can jump on a boat and travel the length of the Canal Grande witnessing all the delights that Venice offers and resting those tired... More

Take any ONE of the houses along the Canale Grande and put it almost any other European city: it would be the outstanding building of that city, and attract visitors from far and wide. Then watch carefully how the Venetians move on the water. It's chaotic; yet everyone is polite, follows instinctive rules, and there are no accidents. A lesson... More
