The area
Neighbourhood: San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.

The main waterway which you see at all times during your stay. Just go upand down and admire the buildings and palaces .We explored on waterbus, gondola, private taxi and even walked along it.

This is easily my best hotel stay ever! The location is perfect, just minutes away from the St Lucia train station, perfect for taking day trips to other cities (Verona!). Going into San Marco was just as convenient, as was taking the vaporetto to Murano/Burano.

And the room itself was amazing! We were a family of 3 and were upgraded to the junior suite which was on two floors, a sofa bed on the lower floor with a stairway leading to an upstairs bedroom. Beautifully decorated in Venetian style but with modern facilities including a comfy bed and super cool air conditioning! Breakfast was yummy, with the option to sit outside next to the canal.

All of the hotel staff were so friendly and nice, really great service and we felt so taken care of! This was our first trip to Venice and we can’t wait to return!

It’s like Broadway or Pennsylvania Avenue, but on the water. The canal was busy today. Lots of water taxis, water buses, private transports and even garbage collection boats. It was interesting to see.

This is where we found the best view of the canal it’s very busy and quite noisy.
Still very impressive and on a sunny day looks totally picturesque

Great to sit and have breakfast or just a coffee on the Grand Canal and watch the world go by on a barge/boat. It is totally unique and quite simply wonderful.

The best part was the gondola ride! The weather was fine and the boat riders were amazing. They sang and played instruments during the ride.

Really an amazing sight. Stopping to feel impressed here is a great idea as you can really take in the scope of what this city is. The view from Rialto bridge makes a busy but good stop.

The evening water ferry ride is lovely.
We bought a 3 day ACPT transport pass which is excellent value, as it covers water ferries everywhere and buses to mainland Venice.

The canal is one of the busiest in Venice, lovely both on and off the water. Great watching the array of boats on the canal going about every day life and lots of people wandering around taking in the atmosphere of Venice.
