This gallery had lovely Murano glass and we picked a small statue for 90 Euros. They got their "expert" to wrap it for us, so it would be protected. We were of course very careful with this statue for the rest of our trip and kept in with other valuables in our carry-on bag. However, when we arrived at home... More

Looking for souvenirs to give loved ones back home, my friend and I strolled into Palesa Gallery on our trip to St Mark's Square during our first day in Venice. We were greeted by a middle-aged Italian woman staring us down intensely. Thinking nothing of it, we commented on how pretty the earrings were. After about a minute of being... More

My mother and I were at this store choosing souvenirs, and we took quite a while as we wanted to be sure of our choices. The lady who was attending the customers however was extremely rude and complained about our taking so long; when we decided against buying because she was so rude, she even yelled at us in Italian... Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
