Context provides an in-depth alternative to traditional tours. We are a network of architects, historians, art historians, and other specialists who organize over 300 different walks in 15 cities around the world. Florence teaches that art does not exist in a vacuum. Here in the churches, palaces, and other Renaissance-era institutions we encounter art in its original setting enveloped by social and political context.

Wow! Our guide, Nadia Mazzon, was so much fun! She was so great at getting our 10 year old son to think about and spot lions all around us (and explain why they are there) that he kept doing it the next day, and the next after that. We learned so much about the political background of what lead Venice... More

What a fantastic way to find out more about Venice. You truly don't realise what you're missing until you've done one of these tours. The greater understanding we gained of how and why Venice came about, enriched our stay. Monica was fabulous, thank you.

We wanted a different type of tour and this tour delivered. Marco provided lots of information on Venice -- how the homes were built - the gates - water quality - degradation - effect of cruise ships - sinking Venice - canal dredging. There were 6 of us on the tour and the duration was 2 hours. Marco answered all... More

The tour guide provided by Context Travel was outstanding. Our five hours with her were intensely pleasureable as well as enlightening. This is a great day trip from Venice. We saw so much more than we could have on our own and our guide introduced us to local citizens. We visited a bar, a glorious bookshop, the mayor's office, the... More

We had 2 walks in Venice- Francesca took us around the Accademia for the "Arte Veneziana" tour and Erika in the Doge's Palace. Both were extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the art, history and the city in general. We highly recommend both walks and docents!

We spent a fascinating and fun time with Monica on the Lion Hunt Tour. Our 8-year-old proclaimed it "the best tour ever!" and our fifteen-year-old also said it was a highlight of our trip. The adults in the group learned a lot of interesting history and had fun spotting lions, too. We highly recommend this tour for families, there's something... More

We went on a Lion Hunt tour with Monica during our last day in Venice - and it was a magical ending to our few days in the city. Monica was friendly, fun, knowledgeable (the adults learned a lot!) and managed to keep our boys glued to her (or running around searching lions) during all the time. We wandered around... More

Our family (2 adults, 3 kids) had the pleasure of spending half a day with Sara in Venice. We did the Lion Hunt tour on our last day in Venice. What a wonderful way to get a different perspective of Venice on foot. It's nice to walk around with someone who knows where they are going and what they are... More

We can think of no better way of spending our first evening since 2012 in La Serenissima than with Sommelier Rachel Erdman, savoring her expertise along with her wonderful selections of wine and cicchetti (small plates). The evening was extremely well-orchestrated, moving from "lighter" whites to full-bodied reds, with perfectly matched food, while we increased our knowledge of the regional... More

We did a 3 hour Lion Hunt Tour in Venice with Nadia. We had some concerns that our 4 young children (between 6 and 12 years) would struggle to last 3 hours walking around Venice, but Nadia had them eating out of her hand. Her enthusiastic and flexible approach, along with the Lion Hunt game, kept the kids entertained and... More
