I was happier with my experience at Ca' d'Oro than the Gallerie Accademia actually. The gallery at Ca' d'Oro is much more diverse. If you are looking for something that is not overwhelmed with other tourists, go to this gallery. We were pleasantly surprised that...More

We were expecting rather more of a palazzo feel about the place, but it seemed a bit of a jumble of things the owner had collected. The audio guide was difficult to follow, and the Italian lady speaking English on it spoke too fast.

Truly, I was disappointed. I am huge fan of Signorelli's, but this flagellation is definitely workshop material. The single truly exceptional work is the Mantegna San Sebastiano. Even the recently cleaned del Sarto is not so great, beautiful colors, but goofy looking faces (even for...More

We essentially went to see the interior of the Ca D'Oro, as the external front was so impressive. Also there was an exhibition titled "Divine" of costume jewelry...the advert for 'Divine' showed a seductive photo of Sophia Loren in her '60s prime formmmmmm....I joking hoped...More

I was staying at the hotel across the alleyway and, on the last day there, realized that this Galleria had actually existed right under my nose this whole time -- really glad I made the choice to check it out, because it is really a...More

I mostly went I because I was interested to see the "guts" of this palazzo. I was surprised, however, to find that they really have an incredible collection of art that ended up interesting me a great deal. Great Venetian art, as well as some...More

The magical setting of the Ca' d'Oro, one of the most beautiful palaces in Venice, is home to an extremely eclectic collection of paintings, sculptures, marble and bronze reliefs, fragments of frescoes and tapestries. There are a wide range of artists represented, including such heavyweights...More

I spent a rainy afternoon here and it was without doubt one of the highlights of my month in Venice. The building is superb and beautifully maintained, the sculptures and paintings in the upstairs galleries are museum quality. There are wonderful views of the fish...More

Heading in the direction of the Ca'd'Oro vaporetta stop to visit a modern art museum we stumbled upon a beautiful sun soaked courtyard. We soon realised the courtyard belonged to the Ca'd'Oro (golden house) Franchetti Gallery. We were lured in. The building itself was built...More

The story of one man’s passion and drive in restoring a medieval building and then filling it with personally chosen treasures. These included exquisite examples of fine art, sculpture, bronzes, ceramics, silverware, tapestries... A wonderful chance to see one of the very best palaces on...More

Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district)
with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many
transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying
areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand
for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal
bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution,
2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli
Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby
