Definitely take the time to walk the canals and find the many bridges, especially the Buranelli Bridge.

Lovely, tranquil area with vibes of a ‘little Venice’. Nice for a pre-dinner stroll as there are also several great restaurants in the area

Hard to imagine that once women used to wash clothes in the canal. The Buranelli family after which the canal was named, did not object.

What struck me most about the canals in Treviso is the strong current of the water moving through. Even the ducks and swans had to work hard to swim against it. Of course this is primarily caused by the elevation difference, but as well because Treviso was built at the confluence of two rivers. The water of the Botteniga is flowing rapidly through the city canals to flow into the Sile river further south. Waterwheels were placed into the canals to enable the milling of grain. Canalization made it possible for ships to sail upstream and load and unload cargo.

So, not just romantic, but an example of how people made use of the opportunities offered by nature.

A real gem of Treviso. Very charming. Extremely popular place among the local population. The right place to relax. This Buranelli canal is a branch of the Botteniga, the most important river in Treviso. The canal is located in the historic center of Treviso, and owes its name to the presence of a palace that belonged to Buranelli, a family of merchants from Burano (an island in the Venetian Lagoon) who bought the beautiful Palace in the sixteenth century, for the reason that they were fascinated by the beautiful panorama of the canal. Right next to the pedestrian bridge there are numerous shops and restaurants where we can taste typical local chicory, in many variants (In meat dishes, in risotto, in salad, in cakes), on the opposite bank is the work of Mario Martinelli, transparent, built in 2000 It is dedicated to the Buranelli family, a few meters away, there is an interesting house where the poet Giovanni Comisso lives. After a few meters the canal 'disappears' under a masonry building with four arches. We continued along the canal and found the historic Beccherie restaurant (due to the presence of the restaurant, the Buranelli canal is also called the Beccherie canal). Passing under Via Martiri della Libertà, the canal ‘reappears’ near the former Santa Maria dei Battuti hospital (at this point it becomes a hospital canal). It then flows under the old hospital, the building is now a branch of the University of Padua and Ca 'Foscari of Venice, the canal then runs along University Square to then flow into the Sile, another large river of Treviso. Channel Buranelli, undoubtedly the most famous canal in Treviso, one of the places that are Trevisovci favorite, evocative look, almost like a postcard. It is a meeting place for young people and not so young people, big and small chronicles are told here, which will be passed from generation to generation. One brief look at the magical canal is able to tell and describe to a romantic soul a small part of the history of Treviso.

and if you're in town you should follow it for awhile. There are nice bridges spanning the canal, a beautiful willow tree, and other things to see.

These are some beautiful and very photogenic canals.
Do note that they go underground for a bit, but further south pop up again. Also the more southern stretch is very worthwhile.

We enjoyed a walk alongside the canal and in and out of the nearby streets - pretty and plenty of cafes and restaurants nearby and some good independent shops.
