Very special visit
Feb 2020
It's a former prison in service for around 100 years until late 80s. I went on a Friday and the visit was in Italian. Even though I didn't understand anything and no photo is allowed, the visual shock was already unforgettable.
Very warm cloth needed!

These Tunnels are well worth a visit.
Feb 2019 • Couples
Having a few hours to fill, we decided to try the Museo del Carcere Le Nuove and boy, was it worth it. We were a small english group of 8 so had our own guide who was absolutely brilliant. The passion he had about the history of Turin and the tunnels came across and he bough everything to life. This is run by volunteers and the entrance fee was 3 eurors - it covers the cost of insurance. There is a box for donations if you wish - its worth it.

Amazing, emotive experience. Highly recommended.

This was not a visit that had been planned but, ultimately, as second time travel to Turin, the highlight of the week. Not your 'run of the mill' prison. This is a prison where dissenters have seen time and lost theier lives. Almost all partisans during the Second World War. Their tales are harrowing and totally uplifting. The tour guides are totally invested and present professionally, seriously and academically. Highly, highly recommended as a human experience.

Relating a profound message
Jul 2018 • Friends
This site is run by volunteers who want to make clear that the in humanities of imprisonment without human contact; the imprisonment of people who are not accepted by the state (Jews, intellectuals) and the people who resist the state; can not be forgotten! This is a very profound experience! It is a guided tour in Italian! There is an English translation, that only tells part of the story! My only complaint is the 2 hour tour took 3 hours! Plan accordingly!

AS impresive as it is
Apr 2018 • Couples
It could be an original idea to put a museum in a former prison. but it has also been a very formative one. I would really recommend to take the whole tour. Be careful to book it in advance!

Very peculiar museum dedicated to people interested in these aspect of History and architecture

The visit is well organized and led by volunteers passionate and highly motivated. The visit is also animated by testimonials of the political prisoners in WWII and /or of the Holocaust. The historical point of view , mainly for the facts of WWII and of terrorism in the '70s is well described by the tour leaders ,the architectural aspects and the ones of criminal anthropology are left in shadow.

Disappointing
Oct 2017 • Solo
Spent two hours touring the prison but didn't understand a word the tour guide was saying. At the beginning of the tour I was handed a folder with some information about the main parts of the prison in English but still found it difficult to truly grasp the history of the place. The tour guide seemed to know the history quite well and I understood that he has a family connection to one of the prisoners that was sentenced to death there so I was disappointed not to be able to understand his stories. I understand the museum is run by volunteers and probably doesn't have the funding but an English audio guide would really be a great asset to the museum and I would've been happy to have paid extra for it as I felt I missed out on the true experience.

Dear visitor, I am very sorry for your disappointment. We are also making audio guides in English too. Unfortunately we are running volunteer management fees and are forced to do things at a time. I apologize for the problem. Best regards

Missed Opportunity
Apr 2017 • Couples
Spent two hours on a guided tour round the museum and didn't understand a word. The guide appeared to be a gentle soul full of interesting insights and a family connection with one of the partisans sentenced to death there. I old have loved to have understood his stories.

I understand the museum is run by volunteers and is probably underfunded, but there appeared to been no attempt to accommodate non-Italian speakers. An English audio guide would have been a valuable addition - and I would gladly have paid extra for the facility. I expect this would be a major investment for the museum, but some English information boards around the prison would have made the experience so much better.

Very moved but also very disappointed at the missed opportunity.
