The MAO - Museum of Oriental Art opens in Turin proposes creative work from different cultures not only to carry out the vocation as a place for conservation and exhibition, but also to induce the visitor to broaden their horizons. The MAO is also proposed as a means of mediation for the visitors generally away from the conceptions and cultural climates in which the works on display are for. The museum aims to inspire visitors in new ways of thinking and representation to full awareness of how precious every expression of human knowledge.

The museum hosts a collection of very select art from the Near and Far East, presented in an easy to enjoy way. The relatively small size of the museum makes it easy to visit with care and attention without being overwhelmed. Some of the exhibits are stunning and the way they are organised helps understanding the history behind them. Well... More

In Turin we did not expect to find such a nice and complete museum. A tourist guide advice us to visit it and it was really worth.

This was a wonderful surprise to discover the art of a complete continent in a 18th century town-palace. Thanka's, Chinese funeral sculpture, Japonese screens,Indian gods, you name it. Also the quality of the obejects is outstanding. A must see for people who are interested in Asian culture.

This is a beautiful museum that does not get the attention it deserves. Lovely presentation of the items. An excellent coverage of all eastern cultures. There were also 2 special exhibits that were more than worth the additional cost. Well laid out and the lighting was excellent.

It's off the beaten track a bit. But it's well worth the visit. While the word Oriental has become declasse, the contents of this museum are truly beautiful. And if you get there soon, you can see a wonderful exhibit of the Beatles in India and the 60's. And they even have a senior discount.

This museum is slightly off the beaten track (although still in the city centre). We visited around midday on a Thursday in April and we were two of about a total of six people in the whole place! It was a tranquil contrast to the crowds of the Cinema and Egyptian Museums. The collection does not have as broad appeal... More

Located inside an impressive old palace MAO houses a small but exceptionally presented collection of objects from China, Japan, Southeast Asia, the Himalaya and the Islamic world. A must for everyone only mildly interested in these parts of the world. The garden was still under construction when we were there but should reopen soon.

If Turin is an hidden gems that the most of foreign visitors coming from abroad ignore, The Museum of Oriental Art is a super hidden gem! Both the permanent collection and the several temporary exhibitions worth a visit. Moreover, it's quite seldom to find big queues like at the Egyptian Museum or at La Mole. So, if you're interested in... More

Great museum with an amazing collection of oriental art - Chinese, Central Asian, Southeast Asia, including some Myanmar artifacts. Well kept, well described pieces - overall a museum worth a visit (2 hours)
