The pulsating core of Milan is in Centro. Duomo Square is enclosed by the gothic cathedral, the historic icon of Milan. However, shopping is what draws most crowds to this area. The classy and versatile Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II with luxury boutiques and high quality restaurants will turn any shopping or lunch expedition into a royal experience. Head to the rooftop of the flagship La Rinascente to enjoy the view of the animated square with a panorama of the Duomo. The Corso Vittorio Emanuele II is the street for high-end shopping. Brands of all kinds and street artists attract the attention of all visitors; while at Via Santa Radegonda 16, Luini Panzerotti is a much appreciated street food shop providing unimaginable culinary experiences. If shopping takes its toll on you, consider visiting Castello Sforzesco, a 15th century castle housing several museums. Those looking to relax can go to Parco Sempione, where nature provides respite from the energy of this dynamic and international city.

Hang out there enjoyably
Feb 2020
After hanging out in the modern side of Milan, which is Piazza Gae Aulenti, I passed through this gate to another side of lovely architecture and shopping opportunities after about 30 minutes’ walk.

Yet Another Attractive Milan Gate
Nov 2019
Built in 1825, the monument was not dedicated to Garibaldi until 1860. It is made of stone and has a large central arch with a much smaller doorway on either side. The nearest metro station is, unsurprisingly, Garibaldi Metro Station and it is a short walk from there to the monument. After viewing it, I suggest you walk along the streets to the castle, Castello Sforzesco, as there are numerous churches and sites to see en route.

Massive and dominant monument at the Corso Como, about halfway between the city centre and modern square with skyscrapers.

Gate of Garibaldi
Oct 2019
The Porta Garibaldi, is a Neoclassical city gate located in Milan, built to commemorate the visit of Francis I of Austria-Hungary, which controlled Milan at the time. The gate has the look of a classical Doric order design and has a large central arch, flanked by a portal on either side. The gate is decorated with floral motifs and topped with two female allegorical figures. By the standards of a city gate, this one looks slightly out of place for it’s smaller than normal size.

Short walk from the Garibaldi Train Station....
Sep 2019
This was Milan’s city gate on the way to Como. We saw it at night on the way to our restaurant, and it struck me properly sized to the buildings around it. It is dedicated to Giuseppe Garibaldi. Giuseppe’s name shows up all over the place, and there is no city in Italy that does not have his statue... or at least it seems that way.

These gates are all over the city, if I have to pick one, this is my favorite....

Gate with reclining nymphs.
Jun 2019
Another gate, if I count correctly, is the third that we are passing on this Hop on hop off tour. Above the columnar gate vault, are two ladies reclining in incomplete dresses, with divine neglect. Probably allegorical figures. What they have to do with Garibaldi it is hard for me to put together. Neither of them is Pallas Athene, more like nymphs than warlike Amazons. All the same. The gate is a nice sight, but probably not worth the trouble.

Another Milan gate

Beautiful long walks can get you to bump to great human creations like that. Oh I love this feeling of discovery, like a true traveler and not a tourist!
Do you agree?

There is something everywhere for you to look at in this city. Garibaldi arch is nice, built to commend military hero. In a nice section, places to have a drink and people watch.
