The pulsating core of Milan is in Centro. Duomo Square is enclosed by the gothic cathedral, the historic icon of Milan. However, shopping is what draws most crowds to this area. The classy and versatile Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II with luxury boutiques and high quality restaurants will turn any shopping or lunch expedition into a royal experience. Head to the rooftop of the flagship La Rinascente to enjoy the view of the animated square with a panorama of the Duomo. The Corso Vittorio Emanuele II is the street for high-end shopping. Brands of all kinds and street artists attract the attention of all visitors; while at Via Santa Radegonda 16, Luini Panzerotti is a much appreciated street food shop providing unimaginable culinary experiences. If shopping takes its toll on you, consider visiting Castello Sforzesco, a 15th century castle housing several museums. Those looking to relax can go to Parco Sempione, where nature provides respite from the energy of this dynamic and international city.

This very nice and irriverent sculpure was donate from the sculptor Maurizio Catelan to the city in 2010 with the constraint that it would remain forever in thi square in front of the stock exchange.
L.O.V.E. are the initians letters of Libertà ( freedom ) Odio ( hate ) Vendetta ( vengeance ) Eternità ( eternity ).
Finally think of this gesture of the hand that you will have done at least once in your life, when you did it the palm of your hand was facing you, for this reason the artist wanted to make this gesture not toward the stock market but to those who invest in the stock market

Libertà, odio, vendetta, eternita

The L.O.V.E sculpture is a monument to the middle finger that we all learnt to love as a child. The L.O.V.E name comes from the alternative Italian name of this monument with the acronym standing for ("libertà, odio, vendetta, eternita", which in English means "freedom, hate, revenge, eternity".

I L.O.V.E it just be cause it’s so amusing.

A fun yet serious jibe at the financiers who helped deliver the world wide crash in the 2000’s. Brilliant it has been placed right outside the Milan stock exchange.

If you experienced the global financial crisis of 2008 when all the so call bankers and financial experts failed to see that they were going bust with their catastrophic policies and had to be in effect bailed out by respective governments.

In short nationalised by public money with the result that ordinary folks had to feel the pain which is even now continuing.

This statue by the controversial Maurizio Cattelan seems very appropriate.

A definite must see. We visited this site on the walking tour.

Traveling Italy 2019

PRO'S: This marble sculptor of a raised middle finger sits on the piazza between the Milan stock exchange and Milan's City Hall. We saw it on a walking tour of the old city area in Milan. The artist has never explained it's meaning but it's believed to be directed at the Milan stock exchange blaming it for Italy's financial troubles of the last decade.

CON'S: Not a place to visit with small children.

SUMMARY: We have been and can say we saw it. Not worth a special visit unless you enjoy the offbeat and bizarre.

A provocative bold statement
May 2019 • Couples
This is a provocative picture for a travel album and for that reason it is worth the visit. It is a marvellous piece of scupture in its own right, with attention being paid to the veins popping from the hand to make it look realistic instead of the shapeless modern art that leaves too much to the imagination.

It was easy to locate and I found the statue surprising in size as I was expecting something smaller

ONLY IF YOU'RE PASSING

This monument is worth popping to see as it's very close to the Duomo. However, don't go out of you way as it's so called importance outweighs it's artistic value, although it is quirky and fascinating.
