Top ways to experience Duomo Rooftops
The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Centro Storico
The pulsating core of Milan is in Centro. Duomo Square is enclosed by the gothic cathedral, the historic icon of Milan. However, shopping is what draws most crowds to this area. The classy and versatile Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II with luxury boutiques and high quality restaurants will turn any shopping or lunch expedition into a royal experience. Head to the rooftop of the flagship La Rinascente to enjoy the view of the animated square with a panorama of the Duomo. The Corso Vittorio Emanuele II is the street for high-end shopping. Brands of all kinds and street artists attract the attention of all visitors; while at Via Santa Radegonda 16, Luini Panzerotti is a much appreciated street food shop providing unimaginable culinary experiences. If shopping takes its toll on you, consider visiting Castello Sforzesco, a 15th century castle housing several museums. Those looking to relax can go to Parco Sempione, where nature provides respite from the energy of this dynamic and international city.

Highly recommend
Oct 2021 • Friends
We were so lucky to do the roof top walk on a warm sunny day. Highly recommend this attraction. Purchased tickets online and entry was a seamless affair. There was no long queue to get in. Impressed by the covid checks by staff. We climbed the stairs to the top and it was not too arduous. The views of the city are stunning. It is so special to see the unique architecture up close. The ticket included entry to inside the Duomo itself.

Amazing but pay attention to the weather
Aug 2021
One of the best places I've ever seen. Every detail of the rooftop is amazing! But remember about the weather and water. There is extremely hot in sunny summer days. It is worth buying one ticket for the rooftops, visiting the cathedral and the underground.

Magical and extraordinary
Aug 2021
Incredible. Cathedrals can start to look the same but the rooftop experience for Duomo is truly magical. Seeing the architectural detail up close and walking through it on 3 levels will make you marvel. The effort and innovation that went into this building over 700 years ago is stunning. Don't miss it!

I took the steps up and needed two quick breaks, but it was fine. However, the roof is mostly unshaded so make sure you have a hat or sun protection if it is sunny.

The flying statues!
Aug 2021
I definitely recommend visiting the rooftops of the Duomo. Apart from the nice views on the plaza and the Galeria I was impressed by all the statues on their pilars that were like flying on the spot.

Amazing attention to detail

The best part of the Duomo. Highly recommend taking the elevator though...it is plenty of walking in and of itself.

Magnificent rooftops
Jun 2021 • Couples
Hugely spectacular architecture and close up on the gargoyles and embellishments. I took the lift up (there is no down lift) and then to get to walk along one side and by a series of steps navigate to the other side which is even more astonishing. Eventually you get out onto the roof which is like a marble courtyard decorated by richly carved pillars. Magnificent view to the alps in the distance.

Duomo Rooftops

Milan

Worth every minute

Buy tix at the Duomo Milano official web site
You can select the package tickets: Duomo, Rooftop lift, archeological, & Museum which is Next door. Our tix for all was €20 pax. You can save €5 if you buy the same but use stairs instead of lift. We spent total of 3.5hours seeing and taking photos of everything. Our visit was on June 8, 2021 right as Italy is reopening to US tourists. No lines for us and the most number of people we saw at any given time was about 20.

Tips: eat bfast (tiramisu) at a cafe behind cathedral. Bring sunscreen and ask if h2o is allowed (it gets hot on the rooftop). Wear
good traction shoes (I luckily found a pair of comfy wedges that has great traction.

Can’t miss it

I always like to go up and see the city from those rooftops, however from the church its really amazing.. you can even see the Alps in a nice day. During corona time there’s no line or waiting time ... we were there on a Monday and therefore we choose the right day and weather !

Morning visit
Oct 2020 • Couples
We visited the duomo in the morning having booked online to avoid queues (no need as it was empty). It took us a while to find thr stairs entrance (outside opposide side to the lift).

The stairs were wet from the rain likewise the roof (obviously) however due to the marble texture they were perfectly stable and offered plenty of grip even on a decline.

Shame about the construction work going on but still a trip worth taking
