The pulsating core of Milan is in Centro. Duomo Square is enclosed by the gothic cathedral, the historic icon of Milan. However, shopping is what draws most crowds to this area. The classy and versatile Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II with luxury boutiques and high quality restaurants will turn any shopping or lunch expedition into a royal experience. Head to the rooftop of the flagship La Rinascente to enjoy the view of the animated square with a panorama of the Duomo. The Corso Vittorio Emanuele II is the street for high-end shopping. Brands of all kinds and street artists attract the attention of all visitors; while at Via Santa Radegonda 16, Luini Panzerotti is a much appreciated street food shop providing unimaginable culinary experiences. If shopping takes its toll on you, consider visiting Castello Sforzesco, a 15th century castle housing several museums. Those looking to relax can go to Parco Sempione, where nature provides respite from the energy of this dynamic and international city.

Limited access.

Whilst very well maintained and an entirely fitting memorial to the fallen, the site is not accessible. You can view it from the street.

Or at least, it wasn't accessible when I visited.

Pretty War Memorial
Jul 2018 • Friends
This war memorial was close to our hotel so we walked over one evening to have a look. It is pretty magnificent to look at, and appears to be well maintained.

A memento to war casualties
Aug 2017 • Couples
The temple was inaugurated in 1928 as a memento to the war casualties from the First World War. It was erected in Piazza Sant’Ambrogio by design of Giovanni Muzio and his collaborators Gio Ponti and Tomasso Buzzi. The monument is inspired by the 16th century architecture but the contemporary aesthetic of the era is visible in various sculptures and details.

WW1 victims memorial
Apr 2017 • Friends
This is a memorial to Italian soldiers who died in the First World War. It's placed near Basilica Sant'Ambrogio and I'm not sure it needs a special visit.

Quite interesting memorial
Jul 2016
We happened upon this War Memorial by chance and walked in to have a look. It's a memorial for Milanese victims of the two World Wars. On the exterior of the octagonal temple different battlefields are listed, on the inside (down a spiral staircase) there are the names of dead soldiers of WWI. Another monument which houses the remains of almost 4600 soldiers can be found underground (although invisible from aboveground).

Very interesting place to visit for 15-30 minutes

Beautiful.

This gorgeous looking monument commemorates the 10000 Milanese who were killed during WWI.
It is made of white marble and truly captures the essence of paying tribute to the deceased.
