The Charterhouse was founded by notarial deed on September 19th, 1349 by Giovanni Visconti, archbishop and lord of Milan, who donated it to the Carthusian order, together with other personal belongings. Petrarca's account is what is left of the primary Charterhouse. In 1388 Giovanni's nephew, Luchino Novello Visconti, regarded as the second founder, donated, on his death, all his belongings to the Carthusian monks. Hello Tijana, in August the Charterhouse of Milan can be closed because there are few people to oversee the church treasures. I hope you can go over to another period, most likely towards the holiday season, and you can admire the Charterhouse in its splendor. See you soon Giovanni P. Charterhouse's Friend More

Now it's in the town, in the suburbs, close to the highway entrance, where you'll never bet to find such an amazong treasure. From the city centre, take the tram n. 14 (in Via Torino) to reach the Certosa. The journey will be... More

Exquisite art, not to be missed during your Milan visit, even if located 30+ minutes from the center.

I walk past this church three times a week, but never venture past the imposing frontage. Last week, however, following the loss of a dear friend, I decided to spend a few minutes in quiet contemplation, and pray for her. As I walked into the church, for the first time, I was stunned by the beauty that beheld me. The... More
