One of the most beautiful in the city

The church of Santa Maria, is in my opinion, one of the best looking in Milan; built in the 15th century in the Renaissance style it has a porticoed entrance like that of Sant'Ambrogio. Inside the transition between Renaissance and Baroque decorations is splendid, with beautiful gilded carvings and decorations, also beautiful is the big central dome. Right next to it is the small medieval church of San Celso.

How lucky to walk into this church and see a statue of Saint Rita. Just around the corner from our hotel...I was so surprised to find this gem!

Both San Celso and S. Maria degli Angeli are to be seen. THe cluster of artworks they collect is simply unique. The entrance patio of San Celso is a masterpiece on its own. 15 minutes walk from the Duomo -you have no excuses.

The careful restoration recovers the old magnificence

In the busy modern Milan there are hidden several architecture gems. One is this church, built in the XV and XVI century in Renaissance style. Outside one admires the octagonal dome and the rich marble facade from the four sided portico. Inside the golden panelled ceiling, the frescos in the lateral naves as well as an important collection of Lombard paintings from 'St. Paul's conversion' by Moretto da Brescia to the 'Baptism of Jesus' by G. Ferrari. See also the statue of Mary of the Miracle on a left altar in the presbitery. I recommend to stroll inside this church and find out many more of its materpieces.
