As many other reviews have stated, the extensive floor to ceiling scaffolding greets you when you enter the Basilica of Sant’Andrea. None of the side chapels can be seen except for the first chapel to the left which contains Mantegna’s tomb. From the entrance, it...More

This is a really impressive church. You may think it is quite a surprise to find a church of this stature in this small city, but Mantua was once an important seat of financial, political, and military power. The church houses a number of important...More

With the exception of Il Duomo in Milan, this was the most outstanding church we saw in over two weeks in Italy. Do NOT miss! The painting, the architecture, the history - all are remarkable.

Wandered into the Basilica from Herb Square. The interior exceeded expectations in terms of the quality of paintings and finish. It is claimed that some mud containing the blood of Christ is buried at its centre.

We felt the Basilica was stunning inside and preferred in fact to the nearby Duomo! Well worth a visit!

I often have trouble liking Baroque churches, finding them over elaborate, but this one is exceptionally beautiful. I don't know the period over which the interior was painted but it looks all of a piece. The dome is very impressive too.

Such a beautiful church! Very ornate interior and all of the paintings are stunning! It’s a pleasure to sit and look at all of the artwork and lovely structures. We enjoyed walking around the church, my only issue was I wanted more time!

I have visited a number of churches during this trip to Italy, and this is the most beautiful I have seen so far. There is construction going on everywhere in Mantova, but step inside these walls and the noise from outside fades and you are...More
