One of Italian towns you have to visit. Basilica is in the centre, walking distance from the palazzo ducale. Basilica was in past very important place to pilgrimage, for relict of blood of Christ. Undoubtedly great building, full of priceless works of art. Not to...More

I loved my visit to the Cathedral. So big, and what a piece of architecture, especially that centered kind of altar. Really liked it.

This is a really impressive church. You may think it is quite a surprise to find a church of this stature in this small city, but Mantua was once an important seat of financial, political, and military power. The church houses a number of important...More

With the exception of Il Duomo in Milan, this was the most outstanding church we saw in over two weeks in Italy. Do NOT miss! The painting, the architecture, the history - all are remarkable.

Wandered into the Basilica from Herb Square. The interior exceeded expectations in terms of the quality of paintings and finish. It is claimed that some mud containing the blood of Christ is buried at its centre.

I often have trouble liking Baroque churches, finding them over elaborate, but this one is exceptionally beautiful. I don't know the period over which the interior was painted but it looks all of a piece. The dome is very impressive too.
