Nice walk through the woods
Sep 2020 • Couples
Steep start and finish, shaded from the sun walking through the chestnut forest. Tree across the path at around half way, but passable. Walk either way and come back by boat.

Amazing walk
Aug 2019
This is a beautiful, very scenic walk through woodland near Stresa.
It's a lovely walk, six miles in total end to end. We did it on a hot day, so the tree cover was very welcome.
The walk is quite challenging at times, not suitable for very small children unless you can carry them!
The walk in ambiguous in places, make sure you take a map and have a fully charged mobile phone.
Make sure you take food and drinks with you, as there are not many cafes or restaurants on the way, until you reach the end of the walk.
At the end, we grabbed a very welcome drink by the lake, and then hopped on a bus back to Stresa.
Would highly recommend this walk.

*ROUTE CLOSED*
Nov 2019
Got about 50 minutes in when path was closed, just after Brisino. Nothing to indicate this at the start of the route or on the website. I initially ignored the no entry sign, but building work completely blocked the path and an alternative old path meant fording a 2m wide stream in full flood. There’s little more frustrating for a walker than having to turn around and go back! What a wasted day!! Shame, as it looked to be an ideal jaunt from the centre of Stresa and what better time to explore chestnut woodland than the autumn. The stretch of route I did do was clearly marked with red/white painted oblongs, once I’d found where to begin and got underway.

A bit disappointing
Oct 2019 • Couples
It was a good walk but nothing special there were not many views to look at with all of the foliage on the trees and high walls, the best being at the Belgirate end where there were no trees. The Church of San Paola was in a locked compound.

love it - take a hat
Oct 2019
If you take this route in October make sure you wear a hat to protect from the falling chestnuts. Walk out and ferry back - superb

We couldn't find it
Sep 2019
This was the hardest trail to find. What we did find was a mosquito-infested walk into the woods that we were pretty sure was not a trail and was private land. We eventually gave up and did something else

Tall rich forest and full of human history
Jul 2019 • Friends
I loved this walk that sets out from Stresa and winds its way through old mansion properties, old agriculture, a gushing stream and semi tropical forest. The vineyards and the chestnut trees are magical. Before we descended to Belgirate we passed through the old town of Calogna. We needed some help from a proud ex-local for directions as the path disappeared. After the bustle of the lake this walk was a soothing quiet retreat. We ate lunch in Belgirate and took the last ferry back.

Great Autumn Forest and Lake views
Oct 2018 • Solo
The pdf you download when clicking on the website is a rough guide, and not very accurate, some misspellings, but that makes it an adventure. The path is ancient in parts, and rough in parts, but I enjoyed it very much. Very old churches along the path. Don't bother with the boat in the low season, just take the train back and for me it was free as the station does not sell tickets. Good shoes, good shape, properly dressed, with water and snacks, and prepare to spend 4-5 hours.

Yes nice walk, but lacks nice views
Jul 2018 • Solo
Took the train from Milan to Stresa, and walked to Belgirate. The walk itself is ok, but lacks any stunning views. Still worth doing as the path is lush and green

Just another one
Jun 2018 • Family
We began the route from Belgirate to Stresa ( took a taxi-about 20 euros) and I believe that it was the right choice. I didn't find that the route is clearly marked. Several times we were really confused where to go. If you are visiting Lake Maggiore for only a couple of days, don't waste your time on this route. It felt like one more school field trip as they have in Israel. Anyway sporting shoes, water and being in some shape is recommended. By the way, it takes 2,5 hours if you are focused on finishing the route fast. But walk slower to appreciate the beauty of the nature. Take your time.
