Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista is a small little church in Varenna. There are frescos on the wall that appear to be partially restored. This church is worth a 15-minute view.

Positioned on the main city square in Varenna, this church represents hundreds of years of history for this small town. The exterior is modest, however, the interior was grand. The property and square are very well maintained.

We attend Mass in this lovely church whenever we're in Varenna. It is peaceful, and serene, and I love thinking about the artisans who built it centuries ago, as well as the thousands of souls who have knelt here and offered up their prayers.

How many churches do you need to see in Italy? This one is really special as the frescoes on the walls and nave date back to the 1300's. There is a plaque at the entrance that explains the history of the church, which is in...More

This is the oldest church in Varenna and is worth a look if a moment or two. I heard it was not open very often so when I saw it was I went in. Very simple and beautiful.

A truly rustically simple but quite beautiful ancient church on the main square well worth a quick visit.

This small medieval church is worth popping into when in Varenna. It's on the main square, just a couple of minutes walk from the lakeside. Free to access and small, but with beautiful part-frescoes inside - there is information in English just by the door.

Our children love this church, it is their favourite church in varenna, there are two other churches in the piazza, all worth a look, you may even be lucky enough to see a wedding take place. No matter how busy the piazza is this church...More

This is a tiny church in the main square in Varenna. The tourist info describes it as "A gem of Romanesque in Varenna hosting frescoes dated back to the fourteenth-century"

This tiny old church is tucked away in the corner of the main piazza that is dominated by the larger church at the other end of the square. Blink and you could miss it, which would be such a shame because it is the spiritual...More
