I decided to go to the museum to find out more about the industry that made this area so rich. Its a good museum but you really need to study the guide book carefully as you walk around to understand what you're looking at. I was amazed by the amount of work that goes into silk production. There was an... More

A little bit of a walk from the waterside, we thought we'd check out the Silk Museum. While we picked up a few "fun facts" about silk production, at €10 per person, I don't know that I would include this on a "must do" list for Como. Having said that, the two staff on duty were very friendly and helpful,... More

We visited this museum on a day trip to Como from Menaggio. It was a great experience. I have always been passionate about fabrics, dress-making, embroidery etc and knew this would interest me. But my husband also enjoyed it. The exhibits of intricate and complex machinery are superb. There is a video showing how the women used their hands to... More

About 20 minutes walk from the lake front. As a museum, it has a very dated way of presenting information - a text rich guide book that you walk around with. There was a short video in one of the rooms but quality of video from 1999 was not good. Entrance is 10 euro per person.

If you didn't know that Como was probably the most famous European home for silk then this will enlighten you. The fortunes were made in the city and the area from all aspects of the trade, this museum helps to show it. It is still one of the world's best places for silk printing still, many famous international names have... More

This museum houses an amazing array of machinery for silk production. It is spacious and well laid out. I was loaned an English guide book and had the layout clearly explained to me. The machinery is amazing. Huge looms, bobbin winders and much of it set up to show how it would have worked. The staff were really helpful, especially... More

The Silk Museum is a privately owned specialist museum located within the grounds of the Textiles Polytechnic of Como. It’s a good 35-45 minute walk from Lake Como but it is possible to take the train most of the way and walk the short distance to the museum. The room you enter the museum by is laid out with clocks... More

A really good museum to know the story of the silk and the importance of silk in Italy and Lombardy area. The museum was passing for improvements, I hope in some months be better than it is.

This place is definitely hard to find - not many locals even know about it - but is definitely worth your time and effort. It's run by the University's Textile Dept, and has 8 rooms filled with antique equipment, artifacts and exhibits. From the Medieval Period on, silk is what made Como famous and wealthy. Producing silk fabric used to... More
