Città alta will always be in my heart with its streets, high walls, shops, bells and fantastic food. You'll merge with another breathtaking reality, while you take a long nice walk where every step leads to new emotions. No words can really describe this magic.

Looking from below (Bergamo centre) you immediately see this magical city. The funicular takes you up within minutes. Once arrived you feel the difference immediately. The old city of Bergamo has a different atmosphere. After going for a walk, it's very relaxing to sit in the piazza and drink a cup of coffee or aperitif.

Higher part of Bergamo city is called "Bergamo alta" or "Bergamo di spopra". It is very well knowned and offers many opportunity for turists that are visiting the city for first time. There is a tourist office close to the church where you can find all the details on place to visit. On main pedestrain road there are a lot... More

I really enjoyed this part of Bergamo. You can feel and breath the true Italian art. Città Alta is a kind of magic with all these small cafè and restaurant. Nice walking and the cable car experience.

The old city is beautifully located on the hill and has many interesting places. It is quiet and very romantic.

A dream place to spend 2-3 hours walking around, enjoying the atmosphere and imagining how life was within its walls some centuries before! Great venues to indulge yourself with good red wine and tipical products from the region.

Do not get misled by a very common thinking that Bergamo is nothing more than an airport location used exclusively to go directly to Milan. I assure you that it is not. Just let La Citta Alta to serve as a proof.

I lived in Brescia for a year and I never visited Bergmao and I regret that now. It is such a pretty place, with acres of history and beautiful places to stroll and eat.

I only had few hours to visit in November. The views supposed to be impressive, but it was already dark. Everything was closed with only few people wandering the streets. It was still nice, but try to get there when there is light.

La Citta Alta is the perfect place to visit for 2-3 hours if you are in Bergamo. If you want to arrive here coming from the new city you need to take the funicular for only 1.3 euro one way. The streets in Citta Alta are really amazing and there are several shops, restaurants and churches that you can visit.... More
