When you see it you can imagine what once it use to be like, sadly it has become run down due to economic problems within the area it self. Still glad we went and had a look but can be a little unsettling when your...More

We came across this little town on Friday night. They were starting to clean up after the market which we missed. This is truly an old town. Very different from Monte Carlo our last stop. You can see people just trying to make it. It...More

Some reviewers were turned off by the unrestored and shabby buildings in the Alta old section but that's what we enjoyed the most. Even in Italy it's getting hard to find this historically accurate setting where you can imagine yourself in the 16thC. In the...More

We were staying in Alta Bordighera for a week and decided to walk to the Ventimiglia Market along the sea wich has a very nice walking/bike path. We were amazed how huge the Friday Market is reaching for a few km along the Promanade. It...More

Ventimiglia Old Town is about 5 or 10 mins walk from the station. You go down the hill and cross a bridge on your left then find a way up - steps or slopes. These vary in steepness but there is NO easy way -...More

Stayed in B&B in Vico Olivi in a tastefully restored tall townhouse with a lovely terrazza, overlooking the church square. Fantastic and friendly, although both house and streets rather vertiginous

It's not Ventimiglia's fault of course, but the presence of immigrants around the town gives it a rather seedy feel. They are everywhere - on the streets hawking, in the parks and around the railway station, trying to take the trains to France.. There is...More

We booked the train from Nice to Ventimiglia and it is a lovely trip with the beautiful scenery along the coast. On a Friday in Ventimiglia they have a busy market and so much to buy and see. They have a nice beach and nice...More

Wandering around Ventimiglia's Old Town was a highlight of my recent trip to France/Italy. The architecture is ancient, the "indoor plumbing" pipes and electrical wires are mostly on the exterior of the homes, because these stone-walled houses pre-date modern plumping and electricity by decades if...More

From the station yes. There is also a small bus called the navetta I think ... this goes from round the corner from the station, in the direction of the Benetton shop.
