I did the full trail (involving all 5 towns) about 7 years ago but unfortunately only the first 2 sections are open due to a land slide. However, it is still a stunning walk. I suggest starting early in the morning from the Monterosso end as that is the hardest part. It is a busy trail. If you want a... More

This trail leading into Vernazzia was the easiest of the villages. We caught a boat on the way home and took the shore line tour. The trail is not for those unable to keep their balance and walk up/down steep steps up to about a foot and half distance. My 10 & 12 year old girls had not problem and... More

Trail 2 is the original trail connecting the five towns; the first two segments are still closed as of March 2017 - use the park website to find the alternate routes (trails 531, 506, 586, 587). We did the Corniglia-Vernazza section in about 45 minutes and then on to Monterosso in another 90 minutes one afternoon; the next morning we... More

I did three walks during my short sojourn in Manarola. The walk from Volastra (our hotel) to Corniglia was easy. The walk from Monteresso to Venazza was longer and a lot harder, but this walk from Riomaggiore to Manarola was difficult. Like a lot of other trekkers, you have tostop and catch your breath as the incline is steep and... More

The sections of walk between Riomaggiore, Manarola and Corniglia, which were the easiest, remain closed several years after landslips made them unpassable. There is no sign of repairs having commenced. The Italian authorities take their cut from the tourists just to do the walks and it is probably about time they fixed the paths that were accessible to all. We caught... More

Wear sturdy shoes and take water. A lot of work has been done to create the trail from Corniglia to Monterosso al Mare, but it's pretty rough footing with lots of stairstep type climbing. Views are wonderful. There's a midpoint at Vernazza where you can regroup and recoup (and decide whether to go on). From Vernazza to Monterosso al Mare,... More

I agree with earlier comments. The parts of the trail that are open were a great hike but two sections are still closed with no apparent activity to fix them. Shame on the local authorities. this trail is widely publicised and people come from all over the world to hike it.
