Nice panorama view, boring exhibition
Sep 2021 • Couples
It is cool that you can see all parts of Trieste from above, not only the port. The armory is quite boring, but the lapidary is more interesting than most lapidaries I have seen before.

The rudest experience
Aug 2021 • Family
We came to visit the castle with 2 small kids. We had no euros, as we were arriving for a day trip from Croatia. No problems for the ticket, it was possible to pay by card. We then went to the bistro of the castle and ordered sandwiches for our hungry kids. Our son grabbed the sandwich and started eating. At the payment the waitress informed they accept cash only. I offered to pay at the ticket office, she said not possible. We asked for the pin machine, she said she doesn’t know where we can find the closest one. She said we should have known that they do not accept cards from a micro note what was put on the cashier. But the best part was when she refused to give the sandwich to our hungry 5y old daughter even though my husband left to find the bank machine and I stayed there with the kids. 35 degrees Celsius outside with a crying kid who had to watch her brother finish his sandwich in a minute. She made us go through all this stress over two times two euros sandwich she was afraid we would not pay although we obviously stated that we are looking for a bank machine. Italian hospitality at its best.

Well preserved fortress with a great collection of Roman ruins that were found when they excavated the Teatro Romano in the center of town. While the collection is extensive, the admission to see it is not large.

But, really, the reason the admission charge was worth it in my opinion was the views of Trieste and the Adriatic Sea. From the castle wall, which can be accessed in over half of the building, there are unobstructed views of the sea and the rooftops of Trieste from all different angles.

Fortress on San Giusto Hill with Great Views of Trieste
Nov 2019
The Castello di San Giusto is more a fort than a castle. Built through the centuries, it’s at San Giusto Hill (a bit of a climb, you can take a bus to here), and located right next to the historic San Giusto Cathedral. When you visit this fortress do take in the great views of Trieste and the Gulf of Trieste, you’ll be sure to take lots of photos.

A must-see in Trieste
Sep 2019
This is a not too interesting European castle but located right at the city centre, you can have a gorgeous view of the harbour and the city as well.

Very modest entry fee brings you a wealth of things to do.
Oct 2019
The entry fee is only 3 euros, and for that you can visit the castle, the armory, and the collection of roman stones. I was particularly impressed by the latter. How in antiquity they erected a small stone marker near a grave, to indicate that this spot "is mine and will not be inherited", including also precise indication for the length and width of the place.

Castle San Giusto

Lots to see in this castle that seems more like a fortress. Don’t miss the armory museum! Great views of the city as well. And there was no entrance fee when we went. Don’t forget to climb the bell tower nearby.

Great place, amazing value for money!

We loved the Castello. The walk along the ramparts provides fantastic views of Trieste and out to sea. The posters are informative and interesting. The Armoury is extensive, again with many great descriptions. And to put the icing on the cake, the entry fee is €3 (and €2 for concessionary tickets which includes 18-26 year olds!) Would definitely recommend this to any visitor to the city - am very surprised it is not rated higher (#26 at the time of writing, I wonder if that is because it is a reasonable uphill walk to get there, and is not very clearly signposted)
