As a child, taken to The National Gallery in London I was impressed with a huge canvas entitled "The Execution of the Emperor Maximillion". Now thanks to visiting Miramare I know a lot more about the Emperor. Maximillion was a younger son of the Australian Hungarian Emperor and after a successful naval career decided to build a house at Trieste... More

It is a beautiful castle, commissioned by Maximilian, the brother of the Habsburg Emperor Franz Josef. Disappointed by Emperor's rigid policy, Maximilian accepted to become the Emperor of Mexico; too legalistic for the local 'hunta', he was shot, shortly after his election. The castle, where Maximilian stayed only few years, was built in the middle of 19th century, in neo-Scottish... More

This 19th century attraction is a delight to the eyes, but more on the outside than in. The formal gardens are attractive: the park an absolute pleasure for an energetic stroll. It's not a large park but neither is it small: it's Mummy Bear sized- just right! Being on a hill, it gives you some exercise too and there is... More

Miramare is a lovely area with a long unbroken stretch of coast to enjoy. The castle is its centrepiece and us well worth a visit. the views of the sea are amazing and the garden are wonderful. It's a very interesting museum and the architecture of the castle is really beautiful. Very relaxing.

This castle was built by Emperor Maximilian I of Mexico. The castle is quite impressive with a lot of attractions. To reach it, one must go through the park. Once inside, there are a lot of attractions, such as sculptures, portraits, and fountains. The view from the castle onto the sea is quite picturesque.

We were very lucky found a parking slot just around the entry. It was a very romantic place and some small groups of people were dancing swing just for fum... It looked like a film setting!

A beautiful castle and gardens about 8 km north of the center of Trieste. I was arriving by train and got off at Miramare Station. It's a short walk from there to the castle gardens. Had a cappuccino at the little cafe in the heart of the gardens. The gardens seemed a bit neglected for this blooming time of year.... More
