Very interesting castle by the sea. Parking is difficult but if you go early in the day there is plenty of spots.

We travelled by train to Miramare and walked down through the beautiful peaceful park to the castle. The castle is well furnished and good explanations in English.
It is very interesting, the views from the castle are wonderful, you can see as far as Piran in Slovenia. The castle gardens are nice and well kept. We had drinks in the cafe but the staff there are rude. We walked down to the marina below the castle where there are two good restaurants, unfortunately they were just closing after lunch so we caught the bus back from the marina, a ticket back to Trieste cost 1.35 euro and can pay by card at the machine

One of the great unsolved mysteries of the 19th century was what would entice Arch Duke Ferdinand Maximilian to leave his unfinished Castello di Miramare on the Adriatic to move to Mexico City in 1864 to reign as Emperor Maximilian I?

In any event, visitors can see the completed castle that Maximilian missed out on. He was executed in 1867 in Mexico.

A Must see when in Triest. Beautiful to see an original furnished castle. The furniture has been brought away during the war. At the moment two master pieces are exhibited. LA MADONNA DELLE ROSE by TIZIAN. And the ALLEGORY OF TRIEST AND ISTRIA by ANNIBALE STRATA.
The huge garden takes quite some time to be visited but is worthwile

Well designed historic garden , and quite interesting house itself worth 40 minutes or more.About a ten minute walk from either direction to get to the house. The cafe in the grounds is very pleasant on a fine day, right on the edge of a delightful formal garden.

If you are in Trieste then you should visit this place. Very nice and rich exhibition. The park is also a nice place for a walk. I would recommend to arrive early to beat the crowd and find free parking spot.

The castle is beautifully situated over the sea. Its marble walls are impressive. Inside You can admire a lot of paintings and nicely decorated rooms. I especially liked the library with thousands of books and unforgettable view from the window. It literally brings you in another time. The garden is also lovely but it was already dark and we couldn’t enjoy it. The entrance fee is low 10€ per person. Don’t hesitate go and visit it.

I really love to spend the day on the Miramare castle grounds. Not only the castle and its well maintained garden is very great, also the widely spread forrests behind it is a great place to hike. All over the park are multiple benches to stop and enjoy a moment of rest in nature. And if you have the chance, stay until sunset and enjoy the magical atmosphere that surrounds the castle at the Adriatic sea side.

Beautiful palace on a spectacular spit of land about 8 miles from the center of Trieste. The decoration was unusual in that there was lots of wood paneling on the walls, and the first floor was left in its original style, while the second had been redone in the 1930’s with a far different sensibility. Fun to visit the gardens as well.

The landscape, the park and the view on the sea is stunning, the castle was built in an excellent place. Therefore it is really worth to visit if you are in Trieste.(And free entrance, even free bathroom!) However, tbh you can skip entering the castle with the museum, the most interesting thing about it is the great view on the sea from many rooms (the architecture is quite interesting, visibly they aimed to have as many windows on the sea as possible), otherwise it does not provide anything special, it is an old fashioned exhibition. Also I dislike the nostalgia for the Habsburg Monarchy which is commodified here by tourism (f.ex. restaurant named after Metternich just outside the castle.)
