Average Museum Good for a Rainy Day
Aug 2019
I think we were expecting more from Dante's museum. It was good at telling his life story and the era he lived, but it was a bit lacking in substance we felt. Parts felt a bit cheesy while other parts were interesting. A good museum for a rainy day when you have an hour to kill.

Insight into an other era

Unfortunately a lot of the museum is only described in italian, but never the less we got a good view on the life of Dante.

Was a nice visit & parking Largo Firenze is quite close.

Life & times of Dante
May 2018 • Couples
Not a bad little museum dedicated to Dante Alighieri. There is a film to start (request if you’d like it in English) followed by information boards and some displays regarding his life and works as a poet in the Middle Ages. I did not know that much about him beforehand but gleaned some useful knowledge from the museum.

Nice buildings

The buildings, the gardens and the site in general, is a really worth visiting place. There you can learn a lot of details about Dante's life in Ravenna.

Tries a little too hard.

The buildings alone make this worth visiting. The displays are a mixture of standard signboards and some well designed audio-visual material. Competing musical soundtracks make for cacophony in one part of the building with no sense of period for the compositions. The museum needs a good designer (and a better translator for the English text).

Good introduction to Dante but music not needed

The gallery designed to introduce Italian children to the works of the poets is also a great way for English grandads to learn. Also have a look at the maps and the various portrait but try to ignore the muzack. We had the same tune for over an hour

Dante's Life in Ravenna
May 2017 • Family
We have been to the Dante Museum in Florence which we found fascinating and it was good to see one here about his life in Ravenna. Both are totally different but equally as good, portraying his work in different ways. This one in Ravenna has a more modern twist to his work which gives a different perspective.

A complete waste of time and money

Dante was one of the most learned and complex persons that have ever lived.
This museum gives you a comic book perspective on his work, featuring atrocious illustrations of the Commedia when they could have had their pick of the work of some very fine artists including Blake and Dore.
Vergogna!

It could be better

As Danet is one of the greatest european writers, the museum in his death place, few steps from his tomb could be better equiped.

An unexpected pleasure
Oct 2016 • Couples
This museum provided a pleasant contrast from the mosaics, imaginatevely explaining the life and works of Dante, probably insufficiently understood by most English speaking tourists
