beautiful spot for Botanists!

I knew this Botanical garden has a long history behind it; the lovely tree specimens (all beautifully pruned and in flower) made it worth my spring visit. I could feel the love that goes into this garden, despite the first impression of neglect. I would love to see more info on the trees and history of the garden though; that would be first prize and attract more visitors.

Little gem

Hard to find, very often closed, yet very cute. Oh, by the way, excellent area to wander around. It's at the very limit of Parma's historic center.

Haven and Solace

We visited several times in spring 2016. Unbelievably, although the garden is owned by the University of Parma, it is actually staffed totally by volunteers! The grounds are not huge, but they are well-cared for and plants, shrubs, and trees are labeled. There is a great little “sub-garden” of medicinal plants. Also, try to see the natural history museum which is also on the grounds. It reminds me of the municipal museum in Whitby, Yorkshire, in its accumulation of treasures. It also has the 19th century notebooks, with drawings, of a Parman naturalist. (I think he may be quoted on birds in the intro to Gureachi”s fabulous book, Don Camilo.) I think a visit in the spring is nice. Since we were in Parma for e months, we were able to see the garden grow and change. And we saw a little display of Parma violets for which the town is famous among perfumers. As with all things, Check the hours very carefully because the garden is a volunteer enterprise and because Italy sometimes has slightly differen organization of the day.. (Note: I had to say we visited in September 2017 because thendates dropdown menu didn’t have 2016 months to choose from.)

For maximum effect and to mask your disappointment over its size, combine this stop with one to the Citadel Park nearby. As for this attraction, one would think that being about 400 years old, the species of flora and fauna would be labeled. Nonetheless, it is visually appealing and fragrant in season (I'm told).

A beautiful botanic garden with its history. The garden has aquatic plants, mature trees like ginkgo, pinus nigra. A Glass house with tropical plants and a “desert house” with a variety of cacti and succulents. It is nice and educational to walk there especially in summer when it is hot and the shade from the trees makes air fresher.

Relaxing and beautiful

Here is one of the most beautiful botanic garden, when you enter the flowers are welcoming you by their nice smell. The botanic garden is not too big and not too small, there is a school inside. It is worth to see it and to take a walk.

Unexpected fun
Jul 2013 • Couples
The garden is beautiful and it has lots of different and exotic plants, but almost none are labeled. It was completely deserted, but that was part of the charming experience. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a bit of peace, quiet and beautiful nature to look at.
