About
The Albinelli Market keeps alive the tradition and heritage of the ancient market that since the Middle Ages has spiced up the streets and squares of Modena, safeguarding the city cultural and nutritional values and the personal and close customer relationship that has always characterized the retail sale. With the October 28th, 1931 new Market inauguration, Modena retail trade left piazza Grande, the original location which hosted it for centuries. The vendors who moved in became stable retailers, leaving behind their previous experience as street vendors for good. Now it is the beating heart of the city of Modena, appreciated by citizens and by visitors the possibility to identify and sample the Modena traditional culinary ingredients and dishes

Great
Oct 2019
Stopped in for a quick lunch when a nearby restaurant was closed and wound up getting lots of great meal fixings. And lunch. Bright, colorful, busy, central and just wonderful.

One Of The Best
Feb 2020 • Couples
The Mercato Albinelli is one of the best markets that I have been to in Italy - for the quality and variety and selection of the products available. I enjoyed strolling through the market and viewing the vegetables, meats, cheeses and breads available for sale. And, if you don’t have access to a kitchen, they also have many prepared foods available for sale and some small restaurants at which you can have a light meal. This is a wonder place to mingle with the locals as they shop and to discover all of the products that the region is known for.

Thanks a lot for your words. We work to maintain our roots and in the meantime innovate the formula. We want to be more than a food court, we would like to be the heart of town, where citizens and tourists can breathe Modena and its style and way of leaving.
Hope to host you here soon!

Made it for the last 15 mins of the market
Sep 2019
We were busy for the morning visiting Lamborghini. We made it for the last 10-15mins of the market and it was well worth it. Got some lovely veg, cheese and meat. If you're in the area and self catering its well worth it :)

A Wonderland for People who Love Food
Aug 2019
As soon as you walk in you can smell the fresh fruit and veggies. There are shops with fresh, handmade pastas, cheese, meats, salumi, fish. Everything looked fresh and clean. I wanted to buy a little of everything! Since we were heading home, we had to be satisfied with some parmigiano reggiano. Next time we are in Modena, we will be sure to rent an apartment with a kitchen so we can actually buy, cook, and enjoy food from the market each day.

A Must-Experience if you visit Modena
Aug 2019
This is a nice market filled with local products and friendly vendors. As many others have pointed out, this isn't a larger market but I'd say it's simply perfect for Modena. You can find everything you need there: cheeses, breads, meats, wines and a lot of other local products. Definitely worth spending some time there.

Thank you so much for your review. The market maintains its original 1931 size because it is a historical landmark and we operate in the respect of the original architectural features. In other words we try to innovate (the small restaurants inside), respecting traditions.
Thank you for coming, best regards

Great place to visit if you're a foodie
Jul 2019 • Couples
It's always fun going through markets in different countries and this market didn't disappoint. They had a wide variety of food that all looked delicious. We bought some Parmigiana-Reggiana cheese to bring home & it's delicious. Also got some salad dressing grade balsamico which we've also enjoyed.

Late nights
Jun 2019 • Couples
This is a great market with so much fresh and local delights. We go every morning to get fresh food for our breakfast. They now open it on Friday and Saturday nights.
Set out like a wine bar with food such as burgers, pizza and much more made to order. Great to sit and people watching. Shame we can't do that with our markets after they close for the day shift. Well worth a visit

Fun small market with great produce, meat and cheese
Apr 2019 • Couples
While in Modena we stopped in to pick up some snacks and cheese to bring home. We bought the best strawberries we've ever eaten and munched on them in a nearby cafe after our visit. We also bought 60 month aged Parmesan to bring home (pro tip - if it's in a totally air-sealed package you can bring home Parmesan in your carry on). The market isn't terribly large so we probably spent about 30 minutes inside before continuing our walk around town. The produce couldn't have been more fresh - if we were staying in town we would have purchased ingredients to cook a meal at home.

Authentic marketplace
Jun 2019 • Family
This is a great place to see local people going about their life and seeing the excellent local produce. The variety and quality of fruits and vegetables on offer was excellent. There are a lot of places selling cheeses, salumi etc. as well. On the outer periphery, there were a number of eateries, all serving different types of food, which shows that it is all well planned.

An Excellent Covered Market; Farm to Table Never Looked So Good
May 2019 • Friends
In a region known for its foodie culture this market is an institution. Fresh farm/sea/fromagerie to table is always the flavor of the day—colorful displays of nature’s variety and bounty. Although this iteration of Modena’s market is ~90 years old, food markets like Albinelli have been greeting customers and travelers alike for over a 1,000 years. A leisurely stroll through the market would not take long, and would be enjoyable for amateurs and professional photographers, and foodies and non-foodies alike—highly recommended.

Buon giorno,

What is open on Sunday in Modena

My dear, not much. Museums and some restaurants. The Market is open from Mondays to Saturdays. The shops are owned by little entrepreneurs who run the business by themselves. It means that it is impossible to be opened 7 days a week, but we are more than happy to welcome you any time.
