We were treated like criminals
Oct 2020
the staff were not helpful, indeed very unfriendly so we did not stay long. It was a complete waste of time and money

A odd experience
Feb 2020 • Couples
We visited this attraction as part of a city break. As we entered my bag was taken from me. My wife’s was not. Staff treated us as dangerous intruders, offering no help or guidance but stalking us and shouting at me for trying to open a door to a private area (I didn’t know!)
Some interesting looking exhibits but very little information. Staff were mostly elderly, one was fast asleep.
Don’t go out of your way to visit.

Don't go out of your way, but it's OK.

OK, but frustrating. There are some really interesting objects in there, but they're not well presented and the online guide is pretty frustrating. We were asked for tickets over and over and there were a few grumpy guards that gave us a smile. Don't go out of your way, but it's OK. The chocolate place next door is worth every penny.

Hard work but worth it!
Oct 2019
Once again, in Bologna, this museum was hard work. The exhibits were of good quality, but displayed badly with very little information. I bought the audio guide and used the room sheets, and it still felt like hard work. Until I went to the downstairs rooms, where the stone carvings from the tombs were on display. These were amazing, and well worth the visit. My advice would be to skip the rooms upstairs, specialising in glassware, armoury, swords, guns, etc, all of which (I in any event) have seen before with better explanations, and head downstairs, to a remarkable display of stone carving.

Sad and tired museum
Sep 2019
This was one of the museums I had most eagerly waited to visit and I was bitterly disappointed. The staff, like most employees past a certain age in this city, didn’t speak any English, didn’t give us any information or map and presently resumed talking loudly among themselves.
The exhibits are precious and they deserve sooo much better than the way they are presented: no English captions, only super shabby leaflets with dusty information about some of them; no clear order or logic. Also there is a hallway leading to a ‘lapidarium’ and we followed it into a courtyard only to find it desolate and almost in ruins, while the actual lapidarium were the five exhibits in the hallway!
If it hadn’t been included in the bologna welcome card, I would have regretted the entrance fee.

a must see while in Bologna
Sep 2019
This is a "must see" when in Bologna. It is a stunning collection of mediaeval art, armoury, porcelain and parchment and the emphasises the importance of the church which gives the viewer a greater understanding of life in mediaeval times in this old city.

Worth a visit
Sep 2019
Bologna is just full of museums big and small and you can get into most of them with the tourist pass or whatever it's called.

This is one that we probably wouldn't have visited otherwise, but it's defonitely wortj a look.

Decent collection, lacks English descriptions
Jul 2019 • Couples
For the price of 6 euros there were enough different things to see in my opinion. There were lot of religious items, but also a decent collection of medieval weapons and armors.

I took away two stars since most of the item descriptions were only in Italian. It would not be a huge effort to add also an additional English description. Also the staff appeared a bit rude and somehow bored.

Small, decent collection
May 2019 • Family
It was raining in Bologna when we visited so this museum was a nice surprise to stumble upon. The collection itself isn't robust but they have a lot of interesting things. I really liked the armor and weapons collection along with the fabrics. They have placards in each exhibit room that go over the main artifacts so you can learn about them.

I probably wouldn't go again but I liked it well enough.
