Fortunately there are many other fortresses of Albornoz
Jul 2018 • Couples
Cardinal Albornoz was responsible for the construction of many fortresses, built NOT to protect the citizens of the towns, but to dominate them! When possible they were battered down, leaving the stones littered on the hilltops,as in this case. The best thing here is the panoramic view for photographs of a beautiful town.

Do not bother
Oct 2018 • Couples
We paid to enter the fortress, Very, very little to see inside and the view from the top was barely an improvement on the view from the park outside. A complete waste of money.

Best views of Urbino from here.
Aug 2017 • Family
The fortress is named after the Spanish cardinal Gil Alvarez Carillo de Albornoz. However, the fortress was built by his successor Angelico Grimoard in 1367-1371. Injustice happens often in history. Fortress is not important for tourists because of the military component. The fortress is located at the highest point -485 meters and the best views of Urbino open from here. So arriving in Urbino we turned left and immediately went here.

Panoramic vantage point
May 2018 • Couples
Our B&B Albornoz was located 50m away from the entrance to the Fortezza grounds, so we would often drop by to enjoy the views over Urbino and the valley below (wonderful play of light with passing clouds) from the garden area. The fortezza itself seemed to be closed.

Great View
May 2018 • Solo
The fort can be easily reached by going up Via Raphael away from Piazza Rebulica and Piazza Ducal. Up the hill. After exiting the gate, turn left. Continue along the wall and you will see signs for the fort. You have to climb the steps to reach the fort. Did not go in the fort itself as it was closed but the area has great views looking down on Urbino. Also nice shady benches to sit and rest. There is also a cafe.

Awonderful view of Urbino from the fortress above it
May 2017 • Friends
Once built to protect it, the fortress still stands his above the city, offering a wonderful view from the gardens that surround it. In summer the place hosts country fairs and concerts. A pleasant stop when visiting Urbino. Sit on a bench or on the grass and admire the harmoniously clustered buildings below you, and the gentle hills surrounding the beautiful Renaissance city.

wonderful view
Jun 2016 • Family
This is the place where students and family with kids (there is one of the few playgrounds in Urbino) go in Spring-Summer-Autumn to enjoy a wonderful view of Urbino and a place to relax, read and drink/eat small snacks. The view is worth the steep uphill walk even though the Fortezza itself is not particularly well maintained and access is rather limited (the fortress not the parc) you'll enjoy it a lot. If it's summer and you want a cooler place to be, go to the Monumento di Raffaello. Wind helps making the place cooler.

Spectacular views
Jun 2016 • Couples
You can take in the surrounding valley almost at 360°, the little hamlets, the larger villages, the gently rolling hills in this amazing park scattered with modern sculptures and dominated by the medieval Albornoz stronghold.

Beautiful, historical setting amidst the Italian countryside
Sep 2015 • Couples
My wife and I visited the fortress and learnt about its amazing history. The fortress is quite stunning and matches the amazing views across the Italian countryside. The fortress has also been well maintained over time to reflect how magnificent it truly is.

The fortess is not much special, it was not even open when we visited it, but the view over urbino is certainly worth the climb.
