The area
Neighbourhood: Vatican / Borgo
Frocked priests, colorful Swiss Guards, insistent souvenir shop owners, flag-waving tour guides, and pilgrims from around the world. This is the Vatican and Borgo, Rome's most recognized neighbourhood which acts as Vatican City's front yard. Aside from the souvenir boutiques and a few food spots, the only business conducted here is papal. In the daytime, the tiny medieval sector bustles with holy activity, as visitors vie for elbow room, or stand in line for a visit. Once the sun sets, the neighbourhood is transformed into a quiet and picturesque hamlet.

Breathtaking
Oct 2021
Seeing so many of his creations in all their breathtaking splendor and vibrant colour is an opportunity not to be missed. No where else can you so much of his work in one place - the Uffizi is the appetizer, the vatican is the main course!

Best part of the Vatican

In my humble opinion Raphael's Rooms are even better than the famed Sistine Chapel and if I get a chance to see again and again I'll do it with no hesitation.

Unexpected surprise
Sep 2020
We had not expected to find a whole room dedicated to Raphael in the Vatican museum. It contains one of his best known paintings and, with few tourists, we were able to enjoy it quietly and up close

Mar 2020
We were lucky in March 2020 since there were very few other tourist. We had time to look and take photos. The only problem was that the photos didn't do the room justice.

Wonderful place
May 2019
Vatican Stanze, representative papal apartments in the north wing of the Vatican Palace. They are decorated with frescoes of Rafael and his helpers and students. In the Vatican Palace there are four stanze, which are located on the second floor and they are: Stanza dell'Incendio di Borgo, Stanza della Segnatura, Stanza di Eliodoro, Stanza di Constantino . The rooms were originally painted for the apartments of Pope Julius II. Raphael was commissioned by the Pope to transform and improve the decor of his rooms in 1508. Unfortunately, the painter's death in 1520 meant that only his students and helpers completed the work. They make a huge impression. I recommend ... nice time.

My favorite part of the Vatican
Dec 2019
It's hard to pick a favorite part of a place like The Vatican, but this is my pick. The paintings are so vibrant and colorful and represent so many different people. It's fun to try and figure out who they all are (I never could.).

The Raphael Rooms
Feb 2020 • Friends
Four rooms with incredible artwork can be seen during your journey through the Vatican galleries on the way to the Sistine Chapel. Take time to internalise everything you see on the way, especially in these rooms, as I found people would just be aiming for the Sistine Chapel without fully appreciating everything there is before it. Raphael was part of the High Renaissance masters (the others being Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo) and was buried in the Pantheon - a personal favourite landmark of mine in Rome, Italy.

Remarkable rooms by Raphael... buy the early entrance ticket.
Nov 2019
We've visited the Raphael Stanza several times and usually there's a large buzzing crowd in each of the four rooms. If you buy the relatively new early entrance tickets (entry at 7:30 am, about 90 minutes before the crowds), you can see the Sistine Chapel and the Stanza essentially on your own ... with about 30 other people in the museum. It's sensational to be able to stand and actually look at one of the Raphael works and examine it. Basically alone with pieces that rank among the best ever created. Well worth the extra price if you are a student of art history.

Lovely-- Rafael's elegant and facile works!
Oct 2019 • Couples
It is in the tour of the Vatican museum's holdings, and the frescoes are elegant, beautifully composed, and show his remarkable drawing facility. A nice treat, toward the end of the tour. Unfortunately by that time one is so tired and it is so crowded that one doesn't spend as much time looking as one could elsewhere, but still very enjoyable to see them.

Another insanely famous place, top shelf attraction
Sep 2019
My favourite picture was the School of Athens which is famous. I listened to a free audioguide by Rick Steve's that I downloaded and checked out all the bits that he discussed. Amazing to get in and see it in the flesh.
