Bronze baldachin is not the best work of G. L. Bernini. Altar in this church is hidden under huge cupola and far from visitors. Bronze form can’t make real feeling of the most important place of the church.

Like everything in the Chapel, the size and detail of the Baldacchino is awe inspiring. It is a beautiful work of art.

The Baldacchino di San Pietro is located at the front of St. Peter’s Basilica, and is virtually the centerpiece of the entire building. Peter is said to be buried many stories beneath this ornate structure. If you choose to pay to climb to the top...More

Consider the time in which this was made and the fact that it is bronze. Amazing. Worth going thru the security to see it

Another Bernini masterpiece in Rome. All of St. Peter's is magnificent, but this particular altar really shines. It's so intricate, detailed, and stunning.

The central part of Saint Peters Basilica is the high alter canopy it is the holy resting place of Saint Peter. It is a beautiful masterpiece designed by Bernini in a Baroque style laden with gold and marble.

Everywhere you go in Rome you will find Bernini. Rome was this guy's tour and he must have had great time management skills because he got so much done including this centerpiece of St. Peter's which is supposedly above where St. Peter is buried.
