The originality of this garden consists of the fact that it includes an impressive number of wells, waterfalls, water pools, grottos, water games fired by the Aniene River near the city, which was deflected one kilometer to provide the necessary water, the whole system running without pumps . Moreover, some of the fountains emit musical sounds or bird trills, being designed... More

We had the great fortune to enter the garden at one of the special evening openings. This was in May for the International museums day. Villa d'Este opened at 7pm and we enjoyed a beautiful sunset while strolling through the gardens. We entered a second time in the early morning hours (they open from 8.30am) to enjoy the different light... More

Even in the rain, the gardens & fountains here are beautiful. The palazzo was interesting but the gardens and fountains are the main reason to visit. Around every corner is another unique fountain that is hard to believe they could create that long ago.

The Villa itself is beautiful with intricate wall paintings in each room, but wait till you see the grounds. It feels like a little piece of heaven strolling from one lovely fountain to the next.

This is a must see if you are in Tivoli. The gardens are amazing there is water everywhere from fountains, coming out of walls, flowing channels everywhere. Great place for photos.

We arrived by train from Rome termini station. The journey has pretty views and is easy and cheap. There is a short walk from the station to the gardens. When we got there there was a large queue, so we looked around the town and waited for the queue to shrink. It didn't. The queue was worth it though. The... More

I took a private ride out to the villa, which was very nice. There is no restaurant at the Villa anymore, but there are several nearby in town. Although the dwelling is nice, the grounds are the highlight of this Villa. Be sure to time your visit to the fountains. They are spectacular!

We pre booked a tour before we left home with 'Enjoy Rome'. The tour included both Villa D'Este and Hadrian's Villa, with a lunchtime stop in the village of Tivoli. Our guide was Giuseppe, and he was excellent. It was all very convenient as tours go and I can highly recommend it. Both villas are quite spectacular and are a... More

So many different fountains here it blows your mind at how many and all operate on continuous flow of water from surrounding mountains. The people who designed and built this were genius. A must if you have a free day in/around Rome.

Italy can get crazy at times, but if you (and the family) would like to have a quiet day, a place to enjoy history, architecture and be able to take lots of good pictures, Villa d'Este is that place.
