Though I did not expect too much from it, to visit this humid cave was actually a moving experience. To think that people as Vercingetorix or Peter and Paul were living in this very same prison made it for me a bit like the visit...More

It was ok. It's Ana amazing place for who was jailed there. But nothing more. Over priced. But I do think worth the visit.

This was a must see for our trip. We didn't realise how close it was to the Roman Forum! It was a bit overpriced (there are 2 prices) but as a Christian it didn't matter as we wanted to be where the Apostles Paul &...More

At 10 Euros this is what can only be described as a tourist trap. My visit lasted probably ten minutes at the most . A word of warning to visitors who do not understand Italian, my guide's English was incomprehensible .

Compared to other sights in Rome the Carcere is simple and unremarkable. It is much smaller than we had imagined and there wasn't a great deal on show. The staff were friendly and the tablets explaining the few exhibits were a nice touch. The main...More

This is a short but very touching visit. The staff was very friendly and talkative, with lots of details even for me as a solo visitor. At the time of my visit it was possible to pay only with a credit card. Make sure you...More

Interesting piece of history. Entry is now 10 Euro which now includes a small museum tour with an interactive tablet which we basically spent less than ten minutes walking through before heading down to the prison itself. There are some images that remain from long...More

Oh, where to start... Well, the staff were all quite rude. Some even blatantly ignored us. It was 5 euros each with a student discount and the Roma Pass (It is usually 10) which was still not worth it. All there is is two rooms...More

It was very moving to be in this prison where the Apostles Paul and Peter were held captive for their faith. It was the last prison that they would see before they would be martyred. It is a must see if visiting Rome.

It is impressive to contemplate the final days of Peter and Paul in this dungeon next to the magnificence of the Roman Forum and recognize that the Roman Empire has crumbled, whereas the religion promoted by Peter and Paul is covering the earth. A must...More

Piazza Venezia / Ancient City
If all roads lead to Rome, then they all end here.
Piazza Venezia and the Ancient City are the very
epicenter of the Eternal City. Within a 360-degree
turn, Roman history unrolls in front of you, from its
ancient beginnings to its 21st century
transformations. Whether it’s those historical
playgrounds known as the Roman and Imperial Forums, or
the side-street shops, trattorie, and churches, this

Does anyone know if the Mamartine Prison is now open (Oct 2016) ... or if it is still closed for repairs? Thank you.

I was there 1 months ago and it was open. No sign of any work being done.
We were there last October and it was closed for renovations, does anyone know if it has reopened or when it will reopen?
