The area
Neighbourhood: Monteverde
Above the city on the Janiculum hill, Monteverde is Rome’s popular "getaway" neighbourhood, coveted for its greenery. Rome's largest urban park, Villa Pamphili, is the area's centrepiece with affordable prices and peace and quiet. Monteverde is just far enough away from the centre to feel like you’re on a Roman holiday and close enough to feel the lure of Rome's chaos. Though its downside is the lack of scheduled public transport, this family-oriented area is literally a well-deserved walk in the park.

A park to visit in a beautiful day
Oct 2020
If you have the time and desire to be outdoors, this could be an ideal option.
In addition to Villa Borghese, Villa Pamphili is one of the most beautiful parks in the heart of Rome.
It is also one of the largest, after the one on the Appia Antica, with an area of approximately 184 hectares, reachable from 4 main entrances.
It is a wonderful place, surrounded by greenery!
Perhaps the most suggestive location in all of Villa Pamphili is “Il Casino del Bel Respiro”, where it doesn't seem to be in Rome, but in the open countryside.
It was strongly desired by Prince Camillo Pamphili in 1644 to exhibit his collection of ancient statues.
The Casino del Bel Respiro was designed by the sculptor Alessandro Algardi, to express the magnificence of the family.
The palace, the furnishings and the gardens were inspired by famous gardens and parks, in particular those of Villa Adriana in Tivoli, where Algardi went to study and draw.
The interior of the palace has numerous rooms and halls embellished with painted stucco.
Perhaps the most beautiful place is the secret garden, embellished with hedges cut in such a way as to form various designs, including the lily, which is the coat of arms of the family.

Beautiful but forgotten
Jul 2020 • Couples
The park is big and beautiful. It could be magnificient, but sadly everything is forgotten and shaby, fountains are not working and smelly, all around is just few ha of sadness, dry out plants and collapsing statues, which could become a magnificient place in good hands..

Idyllic Park away from the crowds
Feb 2020
We visited on a sunny Saturday afternoon in February. The park is huge and it's easy to spend several hours walking around to see the sights. Very peaceful.

Endless sadness
Feb 2020
This park which could be a paradise is often closed for meteorological reasons. It can but very loud especially at the weekend because of all the racket caused by the kids and youngsters playing football although it's forbidden. There are too few benches and often they are in bad conditions. It's badly kept and you never see a gardener; with all the open space they could have opened a botanical garden inside but nobody cares. The only gardener (?) activity you see is when they cut trees in a brutal way and never replace them. What a great pity and what an emblem of italian mentality: what is public is not mine!

Closed for an event with no warning on website
Oct 2019 • Family
Having got all the way to the door we found the place was closed for a fashion event. No warning on the website unless you drill down. Not impressed!

Huge part of Rome that could go I missed.....
Sep 2019
Stumbled on this park when we became disoriented on a walk back to the apartment.
The park is vast, on a summers evening created an ambiance with beautiful backgrounds of statues, ponds, fountains, views and fauna.
Found the house and gardens but it was closed, but didn’t fail to impress.
Mingled with fellow Romans’ going for a jog, cycle ride or stroll.
Spend a day there!!

Great place for a run
Aug 2019 • Family
We were staying in the Gianicolo area and looking for somewhere to run & this park fitted the bill really well. It was great to see lots of other runners and walkers out in the morning.

Amazing Park in Rome!

What a wonderful park! Ideal for a relaxing day, whether alone, with the family or your lover! You can’t get enough of the beautiful umbrella trees all the way down to the mini river, and definitely the super greenery scenes from all angles

Nice find, away from tourist areas
Apr 2019 • Couples
Would be lovely in summer. We came by foot and were so tired by the end. Tiring walk to and around the park, but was worth it. Serene area, only place in Rome we got away from the police/ambulance sirens. Local people jogging or taking their dogs for a walk. Doesn't seem to have been discovered by tourists yet.
