This is now a museum, it was once an important public hospital dedicated to caring for abandoned children, the poor, the sick, and pilgrims.

Quite a plain exterior (by Roman standards) does nothing to hint of the 'eye candy' within! Inside you are immediately drawn to the over elaborate alter space backed with murals and columns, with its surrounding arch adorned with 14 Chandeliers. More Chandeliers also adorn the...More

This is in a nice area if rome off the beaten track of the main area where all the tourists go. It’s a small church with a simple facade but lovely at night. A great place to rest and have some gelato and take in...More

We happened across this little gem on our first visit to Rome last year. We were lucky enough to return with other family members this year and their reaction was the same as ours when they walked in the door "wow, wow, wow"! It is...More

Just down the street from our rental apartment, we pasted this church several times before opting to check it out as it didn't look like much from the outside. Wow. Very ornate and nothing like what you'd expect from the exterior facade. Definitely worth a...More

From the outside, nothing but inside a real beauty. There are paintings everywhere. At least 10 very large oil paintings that must be seen. Strangely though I was more attracted to the proliferation of crystal chandeliers all across the front of the church. There's an...More

While walking through Trastevere we came upon Santa Maria della Scala. It doesn't look like much on the outside but inside it is filled with chandeliers, just amazing. Can't say that we have ever seen this in a church before but we are grateful we...More

Our guide from St. Peters Basilica tour recommended seeing this church, and I'm glad she did! This church has the "Holy Steps" that Jesus walked up and it's an incredible experience to go here.

Charming little church, quiet and not as much visited as some of the other churches in Rome. Famous for a painting by Cavalier d'Arpino (In my opinion not worth the trip). But the church has a lovely altar and for some odd reason specializes in...More

Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded
postcard, a little worn around the edges but still
charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering
streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and
overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible
mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of
entertainment - a rotating set of street performers
entertains almost every night, and unforgettable
