There are many places that claim they have valentine's skull, but it could also possibly be here. It is well displayed and preserved. Also take a good look at the wooden ceiling and the many frescoes on the walls.

I arrived in Rome on February 14th. It would have been rude not to find St Valentine's skull. So glad I did. The mosaic on the wall of the little gift shop is amazing, the different coloured patterned floor is unusual & of course St Valentine.

Smallish church and slightly different to many others that you see in Rome. Very atmospheric with some Greek style wall art. Also houses the skull of St Valentine. Worth popping in if you are passing.

An old brick church, with a high, slender, rectangular bell tower. The only thing that makes it somehow interesting is that close to its entry you can find Bocca della Verita.

This church was near our rental and we roamed in for a look, and had to get our photo taken in the same place Cary Grant did in an old movie. Not real exciting and we looked like genuine tourists. Some tourists get charged to take a photo. Luckily, we did not.

Located ten minutes walking by step from the Theatre of Marcellus, that Church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin is very visited by tourists today for Mouth of Truth. The church was built on the site of an old pagan temple dedicated to Hercules Invintus, but nowaday people stand in a queue and pay for one photo with Mouth of Truth... More

Our primary reason for visiting here was to see the ‘Mouth of Truth’ (reviewed separately) however, I would recommend seeing Santa Maria in Cosmedin more highly than the ‘Mouth of Truth’! Upon entering (Ladies, please ensure you have covering for your shoulders and you aren’t wearing anything above the knee) we saw the skull of St Valentine which was eerie... More

This church is the venue of Opera Arias, Neapolitan & Italian Music. Nice Internals of the church, large marble alter and also the site of "The Hand of Truth" We booked Opera Arias, Neapolitan & Italian Music via the web before we went to Rome, paid 61 Euros each for VIP tickets and went along, the music was wonderful………………….however!!! VIP... More

Stopped by to take my chance with the fountain/mouth of truth and came back that night for a magical evening with the chamber orchestra and an opera singer - amazing sound in the basilica and the Italian arias made it a true Roman experience! worth the $35/person for a once in a lifetime experience

Staying in Aventine

Neighbourhood Profile
Contrary to the chaos of the city, the Aventine is Rome’s oasis. A neighbourhood made up of a patchwork of ancient churches, hidden gardens, private homes and embassies, peace and quiet is top priority and the vibe definitely friends and family. Take a walk around the Aventine and you’ll find a treasure hunt of surprises like the clever little keyhole at the Knights of Malta entrance (the only place you’ll find a line) along with Parco Savello (Giardino degli Aranci) next to the ancient Santa Sabina church. Keep your eyes on the 1960s architecture, several modern buildings are built atop Rome’s original 4th century BC wall.
