HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! My girlfriend and I toured the Vatican & Sistine Chapel with Tommaso. Booking a private tour with VIP Tours was one of our TOP highlights. Tommaso was excellent! I love how this company employees highly educated (Archaeologist) tour guides who provide magnificent context to the entire experience. Tommaso took care of the entree (hassle free - NO waiting... Professional and efficient service. From the initial contact and planning of tour, all the way to the finish of our tour it was smooth. We had Tommasso as our guide. He actually is an archeologist that also gives tours. We throughly enjoyed our day with him. He is a smart, kind, and funny guy. We feel we have a true... More

We worked with Paula at setting up this tour on fairly short notice and she was professional, helpful and responded quickly. Luca was our tour guide for a 3 hour tour of the Colosseum, Palatine hill and the Roman Forum. Luca was extremely knowledgeable, he really brought the era to life for us. His English was great, and was able... More

We met our guide, Massimiliano, at the Coliseum Metro station's exit. Our hotel was a 10-15 minute walk from the Coliseum and the Metro station provides a well-marked location to meet-up irrespective of 'how' you arrive (train, taxi or on-foot). Massimiliano's passion for his job and his 'energy' are boundless and infectious! We embarked on a tour of the Coliseum,... More

My colleague and I were on business in Rome and we had a full day tour arranged by another company. When that was canceled last minute I asked Private Tours of Rome on Sunday afternoon via the website if they could help us. Paula responded almost immediately with a proposal and all the highlights of Rome were included. We were... More

Tommaso was our guide for a fantastic 2 hour walking tour of the beautiful city of Rome. As you'd expect/hope he was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the city. But he was also very focussed on ensuring we enjoyed our tour, allowing us to move at our own pace rather than dragging us from sight to sight. Oh and he... More

We had a very enjoyable 3 hour private tour of the Colosseum and Forum with Niccolo who was a historian and had a great in depth knowledge and enthusiasm about the history of ancient Rome. We learned a lot about what life was really like in ancient Rome and how inaccurate the portrayal is in many films e.g. Gladiator. We... More

Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable of small details in the Vatican Museums. This was my second time visiting the Vatican and I saw and learned things about the Vatican that I would never have learned if I visited the Vatican on my own. I highly recommend this tour, my only regret is how fast it goes.

Claudia was our private tour guide in the Vatican Museum. We got a chance to listen to the history and details behind the artworks, and it was definitely worth it. Having an expert beside us in the museum and chapel made it more meaningful and fun! Thanks for the good experience!

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
