Wonderful day visiting the world famous archaological site of ancient Pompeii that was buried following an eruption by Vesuvis in 79 AD, only to be discovered and excazvated piece by piece. It is an impressive evidence of everyday life in ancient times.

We went to Pompeii, Italy! It was beautiful! Beyond what you would see on television. So much history, architecture and beauty! Would go back. Rome is amazing.

It takes 3 hours to get there from Rome and another 3 to get back It was worth the travel to walk into the past amongst the ruins to relive the the everyday lives of this city Please get a guide to walk you through as it really enhances the experience as you need the history to make this work.

It was a very long day, even tho I wish we had more time in Pompeii to wander on our own. Our guide was informative but a little hard to understand. Lunch should be missed altogether .

I loved Pompeii I spent almost 7 hours wandering around. You can feel the atmosphere here and imagine what it would have been like. Some areas were closed which was a good thing as otherwise I might have been there a lot longer but it was truly beautiful

We walked the paths of Pompeii and saw the volcano looming over the town. To imagine what the people saw as hot ash and rock began to rain down on them was chilling to think about. There are pottery still half uncovered to show the thick layers that covered the town. The theater and its seat and steps are very... More

The ruins of Pompeii are just amazing and the fact that it is still being worked on to uncover other artifacts. It was destroyed by Mount Vesuvius eruption in AD 79. Even though it was so long ago there is still colored drawings on the walls and still evidence on the way they used to live. There are no roofs... More

I pre booked this tour before we came to Rome using viator website and were greeted by our reps in piazza del popolo. We left by coach and headed for Vesuvius. It took about 2.30 hours to get there but we stopped for a break half way. The bus took us up to the starting point and we were advised... More

Staying in Ludovisi / Via Veneto

Neighbourhood Profile
Ludovisi / Via Veneto
Thanks to Fellini and La Dolce Vita, the Ludovisi and Via Veneto neighbourhood earned its reputation as a posh area where gorgeous Marcellos wooed actresses and models while bored housewives hung out in streetside cafes. The cafes are still there, and so are the cocktails, but the neighbourhood is now home to five-star businesses including hotels, banks, law firms, and embassies. The area is also right next to Villa Borghese, a beautiful park for sporting and cultural adventures. If you're looking for tranquility by night, this may be the place: Ludovisi and Veneto tend to shut down after 20:00.
