Villa Borghese has many things to show to those who visit it.
As for this fountain, a group of four sea horses seems to support a second, smaller basin with their heads and tails.
In the center of it a column, made up of acanthus leaves, constitutes the main water jet.
Other jets of water are placed between the legs of each horse and, more internally, between their tails.
This fountain is one of the landmarks of Villa Borghese. Certainly not the most famous but, both for being close to Piazza di Siena and placed in the center of one of the busiest avenues, it is well known to the Romans and the object of attention by tourists.
The fountain is quite ancient and was built between 1790 and 1791.
It was commissioned by Marcantonio IV Borghese, who, in 1766, started an extensive rearrangement of Villa Borghese.
Numerous artists were called to create this work, who took care of different parts of it. The two main artists were the painter Cristoforo Unterperger, who designed it, and the sculptor Vincenzo Pacetti who created it.
It is a very particular fountain in the heart of Villa Borghese.
It is placed at ground level and because of that it gives you a feeling that the horses can jump out of the fountain at any moment and start running.
If you have some spare time, and have a small map, look for it.

This fountain is one of the landmarks of Villa Borghese. It is a beautiful fountain with a large circular bowl with four sea horses holding a second circular bowl with their heads and tails. This elegant centrepiece stands in the Borghese Gardens surrounded by trees and walkways.
