Just across from the large theatre is the small Odeon or little theatre. This was used for music recitals and poetry readings and was roofed over to protect the spectators from the sun or inclement weather. It is well preserved, the stairs are intact as is the seating, but access to the seating area is not allowed.

There aren't a lot of places in Pompeii to sit so this is a great place to relax and enjoy your lunch. It is huge and has a great outlook of the city.

Very interesting and also a well put on exhibition inside the ruins. Can easily spend a whole afternoon or morning in these grounds.

Just some way to the east from Teatro Grande stands this smaller theater called the Odeon - Teatro Piccolo. It took the name from its predecessor in antique Greece. It had a capacity of one thousand spectators. In difference from his larger neighbor it had a permanent roof made of wood. Here we were also in the midst of the... More

Another amazing building to have survived from the time of the eruption. You could just image what it must have been like on a day where the seats were full of spectators and the arena with entertainers.

This is the smaller of the 2 theatres but this area deserves a few minutes of your time. Have a seat, read up about the history (download a guide you can read offline)and let your imagination take you back in time...maybe one of your ancestors attended a show here! My tips for the best experience here: stay somewhere close to... More

Give this place a few minutes during your walk around the site and you will be fast to appreciate the architecture of the theater and the acoustics of it. It might look small but it sounds great.

The smaller of the two theaters in the Pompeii ruins was used for more intimate plays and productions. It's definitely worth a visit and a knowledgeable tour guide.
