About
Around the origin of our Catacombs much has been discussed, they were simpleburial and never were quarries or underground ways; the first note of the monumentis repeated since the death of St. Agrippino our bishop in the II century, when hisbody was buried there in a noble tomb. Many miracles the saint operated by thetomb, so it became a place of reverence and neapolitan wished to be buried in thatplace.

Interesting but not mind blowing. Was a fair walk out of town. Booked on the internet first given the walk. Interesting tour around a couple of levels of catacombs.

This tour really surprised us, it was great! Really cheap about €7 and the tour guide was amazing. Lots of detail to the history.
The tour guide also explained that they also help social projects with the monies made, which is fabulous
Slightly difficult to get to but worth the walk.
Thank you for a great tour

One of the best experiences in Naples, an absolute must-do! Also, be sure to visit both catacombs - San Gennaro but also San Gaudioso - they are both very unique and offer totally different experiences.
PS We visited here with teenagers and they were all fascinated as well. One of the most interesting places in the city.

Amazing place. You MUST see it. Low price ( 9€). You have the opportunity to see and the Catacombe di San Gaudioso with the same ticket. Our guide EDUARDO was awesome!!!!

Very knowledgeable staff doing important work as a charitable entity. Much larger and more interesting than I had expected, including the history of how the catacombs were used during the war as a place of safety.

Very good tour in one of the catacombs. Our guide, Eduardo, had a lot of knowledge to share about the history and the area. What made it especially interesting was his passion for the attraction and the surrounding area, Rione Sanità .

We went as a group of 25 people which wasn’t much of a problem. It took a while to get into the catacombs when we arrived, partly because we were a big group and partly because of a technical problem during payment. Our guide knew a lot about the catacombs, his english was good and he was very friendly.
I went here on a school trip and ages within the group varied from 19-21. Some enjoyed the tour more than others. I’d say anyone with an interest for history would enjoy to visit the catacombs, but it is definitely more for adults than children.
We got a student discount of €6 each which included a visit to a church nearby. I would say that you get your money’s worth with the tour, that lasted about 1,5 hours.
I would highly recommend going if you are visiting Naples.

Eduardo was our guide for the English tour and he was very enthusiastic and easy to follow. I don’t think you can request a specific guide but if you get him he is great!
Tickets are €9 for standard entry and this also gives you access to the other catacombs (san Gaudioso) which you can use within one year. This is definitely worth doing because there are different interesting things to be found in both places.
We did the san Gaudioso catacombs earlier in the day and so much of the information given at the start of the tour is the same, but both catacombs are very different and there are different things to see in each. San Gerrano catacombs are very large and so are probably better for people who don’t cope well with enclosed spaces.
It’s useful to know that there are toilets at the ticket office if like us you are struggling to find any public toilets!

Very disappointing.
The guide spoke barely english with a terrible Italian accent and spent More Time presenting us the association and asking for donation that guiding us.
As not english native speaker that was very hard to understand (except the explanation for donation which were very clear)
45 minutes and not the 1h tour announced.
Spare Time and money, don't go there.

Hello, is it suitable for a visit with a toddler and a stroller? Are there too many stairs and dangerous corners down there?

From the official website: An experience accessible to all
The Catacombs of San Gennaro are the only site of their kind in the world that is fully accessible.
In 2009 a decision was made, together with the Tutti a Scuola association, to remove all the architectural barriers and to create walkways and ramps, so that the site could be accessible to everyone.

I think babies would be welcome. It would echo quite a bit if the baby got fussy, so that might be distracting to other guests.

Gracias!

We're going back to Italy next year for our 2nd time, and staying in Sorrento in the exact same place. We took the train to Naples last year with no problem and met a scooter tour at the Garibaldi train station. Getting to the catacombs from Garibaldi may entail a bus ride. Just checking if it is indeed too far to walk to, and if the bus ride is confusing for someone with only conversational Italian speaking ability. Thanks!

Yes it’s too far to walk
We got an open top day bus tour and got off at the catacombs after riding around
Everyone speaks pretty good English anyway so a bus would be easy and the taxis are fine

¿Alguien sabe si acceder con carrito infantil (niña de 3 años) es posible? ¿O mejor llevarla en brazos?
Muchas gracias

Me contesto a mà misma porque ya he ido. Mejor no ir con carro o con niños/as menores de 8/9 años (sin ánimo de generalizar) porque se aburrirán. Aunque es un sitio muy curioso si ya son capaces de comprender el significado del sitio.
