About
Around the origin of our Catacombs much has been discussed, they were simpleburial and never were quarries or underground ways; the first note of the monumentis repeated since the death of St. Agrippino our bishop in the II century, when hisbody was buried there in a noble tomb. Many miracles the saint operated by thetomb, so it became a place of reverence and neapolitan wished to be buried in thatplace.

Impressing catacombs and great guided tour
My wife, little sons (2 months and 4 years old) and I joined the guided tour in the "Catacombe di San Gennaro". Our guide Eduardo did really an amazing job. His tour was both entertaining and informative. In total the tour takes about 1,5 hours and you'll get a lot of information on the catacombs and the history of Naples. Furthermore, the ticket allows you to participate in a guided tour in the "Catacombe di San Gaudioso", too. For us the tour was really fabulous and also one of the highlights of our Naples trip. Therefore we could definitely recommend the "Catacombe di San Gennaro" to everybody who visits Naples.

Impressive historical place - must go
Winding back through history (catholic history). The place is very well kept and accessible. The tour guide is excellent and dedicated. He knows very well the history and explain in a very interesting and original way as he interacts with the audience (not just telling the story). If you are in Naples, it is a must to visit.

The past comes alive with the passion of this dedicated staff
It’s so incredible that this historic site was only recently restored and turned into a tourist attraction! The guides are personally involved in the project (which is still ongoing) and have so much passion for what they do. They really make you appreciate the archaeological significance of the site as well as its present role in revitalizing the area around it. Definitely book in advance because it was fully booked even when we were there off-season (early February). Oh, and your ticket includes free admission to the San Gaudioso catacombs. We didn’t have time to see them, too, but we did walk through Rione Sanita, where they are located, and that was a really, really beautiful walk with tons of interesting architecture and delicious-looking restaurants along the way.

    Avarage place
Not a bad place by any means, but avarage, especially if you've been to the catacombs of Rome. Maybe I wouldn't travel from city centre here, just to see these. Especially if you are not familiar with the history of the Catholic Church.

    A different side to Naples
Visiting the catacomb showed us a different side of Naples. The meeting point is just outside the ticket office, which includes a small cafe. Our guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining, which brought the stories of the catacomb to life.

A comfortable 30min tour for culture-lovers. The part of the catacombe that open for tourists is spectacular but small. The guide was ok (personally we didn't like his style: few info, many repetitions, many "ok?").

Thumbs up from a school group
We visited as a school group (from Norway) and very much enjoyed the guide and explanations of the catacombe. Our students particularly enjoyed the information at the end, relating to the local area and how the site has bought more money to an otherwise run-down area of Naples. We chose to take the door out to the local neighbourhood after our tour and enjoyed exploring :)

Best experience I had in Napoli
This review is for both, as the one ticket gets you admission to both. Guides were very good. The woman at the ticket counter was exceptional. She happened to be at both when I toured. At Gaudioso, her coworker and I shared a few laughs about my home state. At Gennaro, she assisted in helping me get on the earliest tour and then when I misunderstood and missed my departure, she scurried me to join the group. All persons at ticket counters were VERY helpful & kind. The tour is the type of thing I ennjoy and knowing your fee goes towards helping the immediate local community, it is a win-win! Support this tour and learn about history. Guides & ticket office speak English superbly and are knowledgeable. I'd say it is a DON'T MISS. It gets you off the crowded streets and during my visit...out of the rain.😁

    Cool to see but short
So, it was really cool to see the catacombs and learn the history behind it but our tour guide seems oddly upset that at one time the church had been used as a hospital, I believe he said during WWII. To me, I believe that if you need a hospital quickly, a church is exactly where you would put it. I thought Christ was the ultimate healer and would have generously opened a place of worship to house a temporary hospital, but whatever. Also disappointed that at the end of the tour we were released out a back door, not the entrance we used and were left standing in the pouring rain trying to find a way back to our hotel. We weren’t even sure where we were because we used a different entrance exit point and given very little information about even how to find public transportation. So, it was good, but short, and literally we were left out in the rain.

    Interesting and cool experience
Very cool experience. There is no option to visit these on your own and visits must be done with a guide. They only have groups in Italian and English so hopefully that works out for you. It is a must to book on-line ahead of time, especially since the languages and groups are limited. We recently toured the catacombs in Paris and these are nothing like that at all. Basically, they are cut out of caves on the hillside of what used to be far out of town and now is a lively area on Napoli. Since the caves date back nearly 2,000 years, there is a lot of history to tell. And what a lively and interesting history it is, with so many different periods that greatly affected the site. If you’re looking to see the bones like you do in several other catacombs, then this isn’t for you. They were removed some time ago and when you tour you can hear the story of why. The locals are particularly irritable with the group of people that forced their removal some time ago. The construction is fascinating and so is the stories that go along with the history. Definitely a recommended stop while in Napoli. For those without a car, you can take the metro up to the National Archeological Museum and then hop a bus from in front up to the site. Make sure to download the app and buy tickets in advance, as they do not sell tickets on the buses here.

We booked this from recommendations and booked with the English speaking tour. We arrived around 9:45 for the tour to start at 10am. Perfect time to visit as the group was small, there was me my partner; and a group of 5 Americans. This made it really easy to hear what we were being shown and see everything super clearly! We had Emmanuele show us around, and give insight on the place and its history! Very knowledgeable and great at answering all our questions! Would 100% recommend!

We enjoyed the tour of the catacombs. Spread over 2 floors you find different spaces with tombs, an altar. Fun activity to do.

The staff at the ticket office were helpful and the tour well organised. Our guide, Emmanuele, was very friendly, spoke great English, answered our questions and really immersed us in the experience.

The catacombs of San Gennaro are definitely worth visiting. History spanning centuries all under one (stone) roof.

Also worth noting that with the same ticket you can visit the catacombs of San Gaudioso within 12 months.

We only had a few hours in Naples. We took the chance on starting up on the hill and touring the catacombs.

Great guide and a quick trip to another time. Very fascinating!

From there walked through some of the old Naples neighborhoods to have some of the famous and delicious pizza. Great day!

You start off in a Gift shop.

Our tour started within ten minutes of arriving we chose the English Option.

I did not like one of the tour guides at the front desk, I felt as if he was making jokes about myself and partner in another language to his colleage that seemed a bit off, before resuming his role/duties and acting friendly again in English. It came across as RUDE and inturrupting.

They also inform you for your ticket you can also enter a second catacombes within the city for FREE after this visit, and will guide you on how to get there at the end of this tour.

Upon starting our tour, you are finding yourself in a very large underground room with carved out coffin shapes within the walls all around you, everywhere you look.

And The more you look the more you see.

What I find persoanlly interesting was the story of St Gennaro, and St John both bishops of Naples, told by our tour guide.

I also found some of the artwork around the graves were going back during the paganism times before christianity, to early christianity to later christianity... you can really see a differance within the 600 years this catacombe was used.

You can also see whom was wealthy and not, based on the size of their plots.

Deffinelty worth the tour and a history lesson and a very interesting story of St Gennaro and St John who's graves are still there to this Day.

Wheel chair accesable however there are steps.
Toilets and other facilities are location at the entrance of the gift shop where you pay for your ticket.

You could only visit if on a guided tour, but definitely got value for money on it. The guide was lovely and very informative both in the history of the place and its heritage importance. Definitely worth a visit if you have the time. The tickets also got you into the other catacombe nearby. Both are preserved in different ways so definitely worth seeing both.
