About
Around the origin of our Catacombs much has been discussed, they were simpleburial and never were quarries or underground ways; the first note of the monumentis repeated since the death of St. Agrippino our bishop in the II century, when hisbody was buried there in a noble tomb. Many miracles the saint operated by thetomb, so it became a place of reverence and neapolitan wished to be buried in thatplace.

History comes alive in the place of the dead. Amazing construction and so much history told by the changing burial customs.

Today I had a chance to visit Catacombs with English speaker guide (if she could be called that...). And my experience with that - most worst guide I ever had!

1) She was constantly looking at her phone (yes yes, I know, that she had a group of people at 13:00 too, but is it my problem that there are not enough guides..?);
2) When I asked a question about sculpture - her answer was meant to be told to a dumb person: "sculptures - original, lamps - not". Really...??? I didn't knew, that electric lamps did not existet few thousands years ago, genius..! I am not that dumb to tell such details...
3) There was absolutely no info about where from they know that things were as she told... So history about Catacombs itself - missed.
4) Guide was running in front of group, not giving enough time to look around, take photos. If we were staying behind here - we had to run towards her, because she just started to talk about Catacombs, even there was no-one standing next to her (again - it is not a problem of tourists if guide have another group waiting already. At that moment - we are interested to have a full attention to us...)

I am pretty sure, that tour in these catacombs could be joyful, but something needs to be done with given information to tourists, interest towards people with a guide, guides itself, so they wouldn't do things described above.

Very very disappointing experience here...

Very interesting to discover ancient Naples.
With this ticket you can also have a discount to visit the Vasaru Sagresty in S.Anna dei Lombardi in the historical center.

Great way to spend a rainy afternoon! Our guide gave a very detailed tour explaining the locals passion for Naples patron Saint and the historical events of the city. The catacombs are more extensive than we imagined and the ticket gives you entrance to other sites which we unfortunately did not have time to do. Well worth the time and money.

It is really Amazing place , a little out of city centre. The guided tour was interesting, they are some nice mosaics in the catacombs and tour guide explained interesting history about catacombs basicly being remodeled every few centuries by different group of people. Worth a visit

Must see. I’ve not seen many catacombs in my life, but these are huge. Your tasted about 50 min. Maybe no lots to see, but still impressive and a good time kill. Worth 9€

The catacombs of San Gennaro are located a bit outside the city center and well worth a visit. The tour was in English and the guide shared a lot of very interesting stories about the catacombs which were excavated about 1800 years ago as a burial site and have had various purposes since then. It's a well maintained site and even if it's not the largest or oldest of all catacombs, it's surely interesting.

More so because it is actually located in a 'troubled' Napels area where most people did not dare to come to until maybe 6 years ago.
By opening up the catacombs as a tourist attraction, it also did a lot of good to this neighbourhood since the earnings are also spent in local projects. So even if you got there by bus, make sure to take a nice stroll down, back to the city, and experience a bit of the immediate surroundings there.

The Catacombs of San Gennaro are arranged on two levels that are not superimposed, both characterised by large spaces. With your ticket you get a guided tour in english that will explain everything! My family appreciated a lot the details our guide Antonio gave us about St. Gennaro the patron saint of Naples! A really special place to visit!

Catacoms itself are impressive, but you are not allowed to go in there too deep. The tour is guided just into some closest premises. For comparison, in Malta you're allowed to go on yourself deep into catacombs and the experience is really magnificent. These weren't the first catacombs I've seen so I can compare, and tour offered here is not the best one
