Beautiful monastery
Sep 2020
I did not see so many people visiting this place, and I wonder why. Ok, it requires a ticket, but the site is quite nice, even if you don't appreciate that type of painting. This monastery has a beautiful cloister, and gives you nice views over the Faraglioni (though it is better from the gardens).

A strange mix of old and new
Oct 2019
The Certosa is impressive from the higher vantage point of Capri Town but when you actually get down there, there's little of interest. If you're staying in Capri Town, it's worth a pre dinner stroll but not somewhere you would go out of your way to see.
The monastery is huge and highly evocative but has clearly been left to go to rack and ruin, before being revitalised as a local school (suspended ceilings and modern lighting which ruin the atmosphere). Parts are very interesting and there's a permanent art exhibition by a German artist. The main church has some interesting frescoes that have been salvaged and the two courtyards are interesting enough (one needed a serious mowing when we were there!).
Like many places slightly off the beaten track, the best part is getting away from tourists and immersing yourself in the life of the monks 500 years ago.

Very unwelcoming place

Abandoned and not well kept, personal is really rude, the forced us to leave because of our middle sized dog even though there are no official interdiction sign. Not recommended

Atmospheric historical attraction

Second time we visited. We love this Carthusian monastery, off the beaten track in Capri. A real history lesson however we think the audio guide content could be better organised and some more signage ( Could be very discreet ) should be added on site so that the tour is easier to follow.

Worth a stop
Sep 2019
Nice quiet spot away from the selfie seekers. Good audioguide that tells the interesting history of the building, and some nice gardens and courtyards. The frescos in the chapel are worth a look, and there is a bonus art gallery of works by Karl Wilhelm Diefenbach. About 6 euros for entrance with the audioguide included.

We didn’t knew what to expect but we’re amazed by this place, entry was free (prob a special situation though) and the place was a refreshing rest from the busy capri, the views all the way in the back were just an extra bonus!

A tranquil haven
Oct 2018 • Couples
We loved this place and are surprised there is a charge as on the day we visited, a Sunday it was free.
Leaving the busy centre and finding this wonderful old monastery made our day, we had the place virtually to ourselves. The church is stunning the frescoes amazing, we loved the fact it was mostly devoid of objects with empty rooms with stunning views.
I do not understand the negative comments.

Quiet Sanctuary
Aug 2018 • Family
I think I would have given this place an extra star had the space not been overtaken by seating in the open courtyard for some entertainment. But the bones of the building were gorgeous and one can just close your eyes and imagine days gone by! Some original artwork on walls and ceilings still exist. And the Gardens of Augusta are a short walk away giving you better outside views of the monastery on the way there.
