The setting and collection are both worth a visit if you enjoy art. You need to go in for a visit if you have an interest in sculpture.

Feels unfair to criticise something just because you personally don't find it interesting...but you really need to like modern art to appreciate this museum. Beautiful caves and buildings filled with abstract pieces of art and sculpture, some of which just didn't seem particularly impressive. If...More

The contemporary Italian sculpture, was really cleverly lit and placed in a series of caves. Many of the items were inventive..

This museum is unassuming as you walk by but behind the doors are 7 caves full of contemporary Italian sculpture. The space was that of a noble family so it is interesting for that reason alone. Add the ingenious and thought provoking metal, ceramic and...More

Exhibits are in caves at the bottom and beautiful rooms higher up, with a spectacular view of the gorge. Very cool inside. Exhibits are varied and interesting. The town is built mostly of marble and limestone and is very hot. This is a cool refuge.

What a jewel of a museum to have discovered in Matera. We were so moved by the beautiful sculpture, the unique space and careful presentation of the artwork. It is a must to see!

This was surprisingly good. There are multiple rock cut rooms all different and one area with hunting scene frescos that was part of a wealthy family home. The sculptures themselves are very interesting examples of modern Italian art. Worth a visit.

Big and interesting place. Like a little maze of cave. Amazing selections of inspiring artists. The lightning is perfect and bring a great atmosphere. Historical building located in a fascinating area. I recommend for art lovers and also architecture geeks.

Matera was one of our favorite cities to visit and learn more about. The fact that hotels, homes and restaurants are reinvigorating these caves is fascinating. But this museum takes first prize. It's a bit of work to find it. Don't give up. Keep asking...More
