El Palmar is a neat place surrounded by the nearby lake and rice fields. It has some canals and is full of restaurants. While not the most beautiful town its surroundings and history are what make it so well known. It's 1 to 1.5 hours by bicycle from Valencia with the final bit on a not-too-busy road.

We hired bikes at Passion Bikes in Valencia and took the Turia park path and the headed south. You go over a bridge on a railway line and turn right until you get to the sea. Then follow the brilliant cycle track to El Saler - good place to stop for a coffee. From there you can take a short... More

We had been advised to take the No 25 bus from Valencia to El Palmar to see a picturesque village and have paella in its heartland. Beware! Not all No 25 buses go there and it required us to change and endure almost an hour's wait between them. Standing room only on both. Why no more buses? The ETM timetable... More

We stayed in the Westin hotel in Valencia and was advised by Marian that this was the best place in Spain for Rice. We took a boat trip and then ate at Restaurante El Palmar one of the larger eateries. Paella Valenciana was good and enjoyed by the whole family. The boat trip was great and we did see some... More

We did a very nice day trip from Valencia to El Palmar by bike. We hired a bike in the center of Valencia. You follow el Turia till you reach the sea! Then you can drive almost the whole time next to the coastline. The last few kilometers are on an inland road. You pass the rice fields before you... More

We went sightseeing in the morning and dropped by the restaurant for lunch. It was very busy but we were quite lucky to get a table outside by the canal. The staffs are attentive and friendly. We ordered set menu for 3 of us, good potion of food and the paella was very yummy, not too salty plus the rice... More

Visited here recently based on the good reviews of parque natural de la albufera. We were visiting valencia so it was on our way home. It's off season now so everything was quiet which I love. Lots of little restaurants and canals and many options to take a boat trip onto the lake. You can easily pass a few hours... More

This village was easy to find by car. Driving on the CV500 from Valencia town it was well signposted, and in the village there were plenty of places to park. It is a rather quaint place with lots of restaurants. We had the famous eels to start with followed by a delicious Paella Marinara. Unfortunately the weather was rather unsettled... More

We stayed in Les Gavines near El Palmar for a week in May this year. The area is beautiful but we found both that at this time of year that the many of the restaurants and shops in all the villages and towns are completely closed, and in any event even in high season many do not open during the...
