About
The Fortuna House will take you to the domestic environment of the Roman Cartagena during the first century. The different rooms that formed the house, the dining room where the family celebrated the banquets, the salon in which the lord of the house received his visitors or to the bedrooms and private part of the house. Their objects of personal adornment, chandeliers, dishes, among others, will help you understand the fashions and customs of the time. At the same time, you will be able to admire the beauty of its murals and mosaics with a variety of reasons such as the Swan - image of the house -, swastikas, flowers or pomegranates. All laden with a great mythological symbolism.

This doesn't take very long, but it gives you a nice feel of how the well-to-do lived in Roman times. Multiple room with enough artifacts, furnishings and such to help understand the home and residents. There's enough English information to explain what you are looking at.

The roman remains of this house on one of the Roman streets really provides an insight in the life of the Romans in this city. Beautiful wall paintings..

Very informative and inexpensive. There were enough signs in English. This is a hidden gem as few people were in there.

Situated under a modern building, this visit takes you through a small Roman town house from the main entrance on a Roman street to the back of the house. You will see the remains of wall paintings and mosaic floors and will get an idea of life in such a town house.

The museum is exactly what the name says. It’s a museum dedicated to one house. People ( myself included) get used to the idea of a museum being a sprawling complex. Every inch of Cartagena had something on it at some point. This is a small basement museum dedicated to one individual home that was obviously luxurious for the time. It is presented in a very professional manner. Go see it if you’re in town, just remember it’s one Roman house, the street in front, and a piece of the alleyway behind.

The name is not inspiring but do not miss this visit. You are transported into a wealthy middle class Roman home. Even the street it was on has been uncovered. Guides at entrance were impressively helpful. Name derives from inscription at entrance wishing you good fortune. Be sure to cross it correctly.

This site gives a great glimpse into the past, and the time of Roman occupation and development. There is even a portion of a Roman road that has been uncovered, and you can get a sense of the way roads and walkways were paved. It is a very interesting museum, well worth a visit.

The remains of an old Roman house giving a fascinating insight into an original house. Great if the weather is poor.

We visited here on our walking tour of Cartagena. Excellent example of Roman a Roman street & entrance to home. Set up to showcase a Roman home with some examples of pottery, etc. Underground. Well lit. Easy to navigate.
