Great summary of the history of Cartagena. (We recommend buying the combined ticket if you plan to visit a number of the sites in the old city.) The information is provided in different formats so you don't get bored - also the written detail is pocket-sized so you are happy to read it all! The views from the castle are... More

There is a small park surrounding the keep with views around the city and boards pointing out interesting buildings, there are a few peacocks roaming around as well. You have to pay to enter the keep but within it are displays and video showing its history and the various cultures that have fought over it through the centuries. Away from... More

Easy walk uphill (or take lift behind the hill). View films with English subtitles. Interesting displays.

The view from up here is incredible. You can see most of Cartagena as well as the sea. Climbing up the hill to get to it is also part of the fun. I would recommend doing this on a clear day if you want a great view.

The castle is old like much of Spain. The artifact that are shown are reproductions. Not impressive. The suite of arm noted, reproduction. This is a place that was used for an air raid sheet during the Spain's revolution. From the castle you can see the five hills and osean where a number of sail boats were racing. There are... More

We were pleased we walked up the hill to the " Castle ".The views of the Roman remains were good enough not to have to pay the entrance fee. The view from the top over the city were pleasant enough.Inside we enjoyed the slide shows depicting the history of Cartagena and surrounding area..Do not go with high expectation of battlements... Conception Castle or Castillo dela conception is a 13th century castle built on the remains of a Muslim fortress. It was a defense building, not a castle where kings and queens resided. The 17th century component of the castle reflect the medieval period. There are no furnishings but some videos some of which are relevant to the building. There were also... More

You can take a taxi up to a viewpoint and the castle. There is then a slope to walk up to the castle. If you take the lift up there are another couple of slopes to negotiate before getting to the castle. The castle has a lift and stair lift. From the castle and the top of the tower there... More
