From 6 artist on stage: Two dancers with a singer, a guitarrist, percussion and a violin or flute. Since its beginnings, Flamenco has evolved in hidden places. It is danced and sung in private, in the presence of a select group of friends, without any amplification. Often, a brick cellar would be chosen, due to its wonderful acoustics. This is the authentic, unvarnished performance that we seek to recreate: a man and a woman dancing, a singer, a guitarist, a violin and percussion, sounds and shadows on ancient brick-lined cellar walls, all in a show lasting one hour. Welcome to Essential Flamenco.

Very enjoyable show in an 'up close and personal' venue. Great musicians (4) and dancers (2). All the passion and flair that you expect with authentic flamenco. Our 2 young girls (6&9) really enjoyed it too. Well worth a visit if you have an hour...More

This is authentic and the "cast" obviously all respect and like each other - there is fantastic music and the drummer is out of this world!! The dancing is intimate and authentic. This show is a must if you want to avoid the tourist dancing...More

Hello Lynda: You mention "avoid the tourist dancing". Yes, flamenco has two very different branches: The andalusian folk music (Sevillanas) that is very happy and colorful, and the flamenco jondo (jondo means deep), witch is a very personal, artistic interpretation, and is not just entertainment...More

This group of Flamenco dancers were incredible to watch. The passion for which all of them displayed their craft was beautiful. The setting was small and intimate which made for an even better experience. I would highly recommend them.

Hello StrongHands: Yes, that´s one of our secrets. The "...all of them..." is commanded by "El Mistela", National Price of Flamenco, who has made a stable group of selected artists. (In most tablaos, the artist are rotating a lot). Thanks four your kind review.

We wanted to see a flamenco show while we were in Madrid, and we happened to come across this one. It was real, live, no microphones, just musicians and the dancers. It was one hour long which was plenty as we wanted to see more...More

Hello Dana: That´s an idea! We could use the slogan: "The real thing"... Too bad Coca Cola already used it :) Yes, we don´t fool the tourist around. No paella, no tables, no waiters moving around, no microphones. "Flamenco Unplugged". We like it. Thank you...More

We opted for Essential Flamenco after reading TripAdvisor reviews, hoping for a real flamenco show to see with kids with good seats and without the need to buy dinner. We did have good seats and no need to buy dinner. The drummer was amazing, playing...More

Hello OregonMom: It´s strange that you didn´t like the female dancer, some others reviews says that "is impossible not to fall in love with her". Maybe the thing is that in flamenco jondo, that is our stile, the male and the female dancer, has some...More

Hello Lukikuchi: "the stage very near to us". Right. That´s how old flamenco used to be 100 years ago. A stage right in the middle of the audience, with never more than 30/40 people around. Then, in the 60´s, began to come tourists to Spain,...More

Hello Susan: Yes, we are offering a different tablao concept. No tables, no dinner, no amplification (there´s no need in a small brick cave). Only a stage rounded of few chairs, very intimate, very familiar. As flamenco used to be. Thanks for tour review.

Hello Elle: Yes, you are right. "feels like a cave". Antique flamenco, in its born place, Andalucía, used to be performed many times in real caves. When it come to Madrid, the flamenco artists look for something similar, and they found rooms downstairs, brick cellars...More
