If you're going to Jardines del Buen Retiro (Parque de Retiro) just for this - don't bother (unless you're related...). It's just a nice looking statue, but the park it is in - definitely you should go and check out the park - you'll need...More

Lovely monument in Retiro Park just by the artificial lake. It's a very elegant statue of Alfonso mounted on steps backed by magnificent colonnades that front the water. Retiro is magnificent and the lake is it's finest feature. The monumenrt has a very prominent and...More

The is a nice monument built ~1920 that looks Romanesque. There is a colonnade with statues of people and of mythical beings, quite pretty. The lake in front of the monument is very popular and even on a cold January day had many boaters out...More

This park is great. I saw so many things, beautiful architecture like this monument next to an artificial lake. This place is great for Instagram and quite romantic too.

When I came 6 months ago this stunning monument was partially covered in scaffolding. This has been removed and you can now see the most spectacular monument in Madrid in full. Make sure to see close to and from the opposite side of the lake.

This monument overlooking the boating lake is a great piece of architecture and is well worth including on any trip to Madrid, there is a nice little cafe overlooking the monument where I had a great hot chocolate in the winter sun

Monumento a Alfonso XII looked an impressive statue in Retiro Park but only a glimpse was possible as it was undergoing maintenace and was covered in plastic sheeting.

The actual statue is very ordinary but the surround plus the lakeside setting and park itself is truly beautiful. It overlooks the huge lake with it's impressive architectural surround and other monuments. One side to the right of the statue is currently under development.

We only viewed it from across the lake. Until now, I didn't know the monument had stairs you could climb. Something I'll have to do if I ever get a chance to go back. Post a review on your visit.
