I was looking for a non turistic flamenco place to bring my family and friends when they come to visit me and Candela is exactly what I was looking for! It is not a fancy place but the show was amazing! The entrance is €15 with drink included (beer or wine), while in other places it costs 60-80 euros. There... More

We were concerned that by waiting till well after dinner we might be late. Well not to worry. To the die hard locals, late is the other side of 4am. The for some in the adjacent table with their gin-soaked brain think that I too can dance flamenco. You can’t, but this is the place to try without making a... More

We were looking for the authentic, no frills Flamenco and we found it! Candela is a basic back street cafe with a small stage set up with enough room to seat a guitar player, singer, percussionist and dancer. This definetly seems to be an afficionado's venue rather than a commercial show. The shows are late (scheduled start 11pm), very reasonable... More

we went there and the show was amazing. very small intimate venue. full of locals. singers were amazing and dancers were just fabulous. hard to find because it really is up the side streets and cobbled roads. we got a taxi. they take it very seriously and do not like you videoing them but def a show not to be... Staying in Lavapies

Neighbourhood Profile
Walking into this neighbourhood is like entering a different country ... except it's hard to tell which one it is. One side of Calle Lavapiés is lined with Indian restaurants, the other with kebab shops. Men in traditional African clothing convene outside their businesses for long chats, and people shout to each other across plazas and streets. Interspersed among ethnic specialty shops are independent theaters and dance studios, and two large arts and cultural centers — the beautiful Casa Encendida and the Tabacalera, a former tobacco factory — all of which attract young crowds. Along Calle Argumosa, the place to go for drinks, artists and art appreciators with piercings and dreadlocks convene in the street’s eclectic array of young, hip bars. Though some of the side streets can get a little seedy at night, Lavapiés is still the place to go for those seeking a unique blend of arts and culture in an international and funky neighbourhood.
