Naomi, the guide was just amazing, really! The best guide I´ve ever experienced. She managed to explain the whole spanish history in such a funny and interesting way! We, as visitors, could also take part in the guiding by playing different characters from spanish history. We also had a chance to visit hidden places of Madrid. The tour is definitely... More

Madrid is the 5th city where I do a walking tours together with Sandemans, I was never disappointed before and this time was no exception. The tour was very informative, good overview of main sights, history of the city and some advices what to do, what places are tourists traps and what are not. Our guide was Sebastian and big... Try and do this tour if you can! Initially i was concerned that the group of 15 was quite diverse in ages and several only spoke Spanish but the charismatic Guillermo had everyone at ease and enjoying themselves very quickly. He was a lovely tour guide who ensured noone missed out on anything. The three places we visited were delightful... More

Our tour guide Ramon was very entertaining and informative. The free walking tour was a great way to spend our first morning in Madrid. We learned a lot about the history of the city and saw some great sites!

So we met at the square, checked in and were divided into 3 smaller groups for ease of movement and being able to hear. Our guide today (14 March) Sebastian was full of energy, vibrance and information. I've been in Madrid for 2 weeks and have done lots of wandering and sightseeing. Alot of the things I have walked past... More

Really informative walking tour around lots of the city, starting in Plaza Mayor and ending near the palace. Only real gripe is the long break: a 30 min break just before the end of the tour seems nonsensical and a push to get you to buy more things from the tour cafe. Otherwise I'd recommend.

We did the free walking tour (donations given to guide at your discretion) leaving at 2pm from Plaza Mayor. We had a wonderful walk around Madrid with a highly outstanding, informative and funny narrative given along the way by Sebastian. Absorbed more information in this tour than many books I've read on the history of Spain! Highly recommended!

We took the free tour, getting Edward Morrow as our tour guide. Charming and knowledgeable, he mixed historical fact and local fiction for a quick walk through Madrilene history. Thoroughly recommended!

My friend and I were on a city break in Madrid and having previously been on Sandemans tours in Berlin, Copenhagen and Munich, we decided to spend our Saturday morning exploring Madrid with Sandemans. Our guide Fabrizio was excellent, showing us the best of this wonderful city. His stories are highly informative and engaging and time just flew by. We... More

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
